I have seen a couple of posts talking about a mesh wind deflector as an alternative to the plexiglass one. Where does one get such an item? I haven't seen it on the MB web site. For all I know, it could be a standard item with the car. I took delivery on my car only a couple of weeks ago and I'm still finding out things about it!

Thanks,

This is currently being discussed in another thread. It's not included with any of the packages for certain model years (essentially 2007 and on in the US), however we don't know where you are or which year your car is. Please fill the info into your profile.

I was quoted $145 for the mesh wind deflector today from the Dealer parts dept.

Part # B6-781-2228, it's listed in the MB Accessories SLK-Class brochure.

I don't think I'm going to ante up for one at that price. I don't want it that bad.

Just for reference, the Plexiglass one (B6-781-2224) was quoted at $620

$145 ? That's about $140 more than it's worth in my opinion.
Roger that. Save your money and buy the plastic windscreen. Like the mesh screen, the price of $620 is definitely inflated ($20 for the piece of plastic and $600 for the MB logo), but it looks/functions a whole lot better.

It sems the "norm" for German products. The "other" guys also seem to have an inflated opinion of their products. It's not all dollar/Euro exchange rate.

I also own BMW and KTM (Austrian) motorcycles and their parts & accessories are right up there with oil prices, at least the "products" last longer.:banghead:

Here in Canada, the SLK 280 and 350 offer the fabric windscreen within a Premium Package. In the SLK 55, it comes standard.

With my 2005 SLK200k it came standard. I am surprised that it costs that much to buy. It appears to be an item that could be produced for under $10. I have only used it once. Here in Bangkok there is very little need for it.

Thanks for all the information. Since I posted, I have found out that it is an option for my particular car. I didn't get it. :)

BTW, I updated my profile for those who requested it.

Saturday (5/12) I took my new SLK 350 down Hwy 680 in the S F Bay Area for the first time. The mesh wind blocker was installed. It was about 11:00 AM, very sunny; and the top was down, of course. Within the first 30 seconds I encountered my a major problem with the mesh set up: It was impossible to reconize, with any clarity, the cars behind. There was no way I could distinguish CHP or other police vehicles. I got the plexiglass yesterday. It took 30 seconds to install. I then took it up to 75 MPH on Hwy 24, which has one of the worst surfaces of any freeway in CA. It was rattle-free and did a good job of keeping the wind in check.
Yes, it's expensive, but less than a couple of tickets and insurance points.
