Hey guys!

Firstly sorry for the long post!!

I have a 2001 Mercedes S Class W220. I have had it for 12 years now and the battery died as it was parked at home for a few weeks. I eventually got the boot open to change the battery and it was fine. (The garage took out the Bosch battery and replaced it with a Lion battery) A few weeks later the battery died once more. Went back to get a new battery and again they put in another Lion battery. When I started the car, a message came up on the dashboard saying "Entrance Position Do Not Drive". I was told it will go away after a few drive cycles as the change of battery caused this..

Unfortunately the battery died once more. Took it to a new different garage (A Mercedes specialist) and told me I had a faulty alternator and that Lion batteries are the WORST. I got them to change the battery and alternator.. Now I have a Bosch battery recommended by the Mercedes specialist and a brand new alternator..

Now the problem is that the message on the dashboard is still there. Its been nearly 2 months since I've had the new battery and alternator and was told by the new mechanics that it will go after a few drive cycles.. It hasn't.

They connected it to a computer and cleared all error codes. Still the same problem. They said just keep driving it until it goes.
Its now annoying me and I'm worried its something else.

Can someone please help me and tell me what it is??

Thanks in advance.

"Entrance Position Do Not Drive" seems to be related to steering wheel position. Check if you can move the steering wheel up/down in/out. If not, check the fuses responsible for in/up steering wheel moving.
Perhaps the ECU has lost current position of the steering wheel. Try to move it fully up/down/in/out and perhaps the message will go away. Try the same with the seat.

Hi thanks for the reply..

I have already read through that post last week and it did help me with my power windows when the express feature didn't work. Thanks!

However, my 2001 model does not have the easy exit feature for the seats and also does not have memory seats. Only the steering wheel moves up when key is taken out.
I have tried moving the seat and the steering wheel to all their limits a few times but the message is still there.

My guess was that maybe the Lion battery which was in their wasn't any good for the car. Now I have the new Bosch battery, I was hoping for the message to clear.
Still no luck.

Tusabes is pulling your chain. The Resets page you indicated you had consulted discussed the fact that simply doing "resets" may not clear a trouble code. You may have to have that done with DAS.

Whats DAS?
DAS or Xentry are software programs used with a multiplexer to access the systems in the car. Diagnostic codes are displayed through this this system as well as configuration of options and systems.

You have to have the software, licensing dongle, multiplexer and cables that correspond to your car.
