The May 9,2005 issue of AutoWeek has an interesting cover story on a possible G class based MB truck. I know in the past there has been rumors of a MB truck but indications are they may do it to compete with the Escalade EXT.

Looking at the renderings it appears that MB will remove the 3rd row seats and convert it to a short bed similar to the Ridgeline.

To get an idea of what it will look like, imagine the full size Nissan Titan truck with a Chevy Avalance/Cadillac EXT/Hummer H2 SUT/Honda Ridgeline mid section "rear-seat-fold-down-truck-opens-to-bed" treatment.

Seeing as one of the variants of the current G is a truck, it would make sense that MB would offer a truck version of the dreaded newer SUV.

Those renderings were done by the skilled artists of Autoweek and some other independant firm. This is a concept render based on speculation and a small bit of detail from Mercedes.

Same issue shows a few other concepts like the H2 Buggy, 2 door truck convertible.

A previous Autoweek refered to the new G class as GL, but they are still flinging around the term "G" very loosely. They are probably trying to get under our skin![:D]
