Has anyone purchased the Extended Warranty from Mercedes Benz?
I am just about at 50K miles. I was quoted $5100 for the 3 additional years and up to 100K miles. What are others paying? Was it worth it?

I just had major transmission issues (the dealer tells me that that would be covered even if I did not purchase the extended warranty because it is an "on going issue". They also just replaced my entire Command so that is new. I am just wondering if it is worth it to buy it vs. what I would pay over the next 3 years in repairs.

Thanks!

Depends on what the warranty covers. From personal experience I purchased an extended through a third party warranty company on my CLK430 which I bought new in 2001. The last month of the manufacturers remainder of the warranty was left and I knew I'd keep the car as it only had about 18K on the odometer (4 years old). The extended at the time was only about 1800 dollars. I still own the car and the company has paid every claim including a recent claim of nearly 2100 for a climate control unit and blower regulator motor. I also had ball joints, drag link, mass air meter, gauge cluster and other bits replaced. The warranty extended my coverage for an additional 6 years up to 100K which I'll never reach - the car only has 44K. My dealer said they were impressed with the warranty and they never had a problem getting a claim covered and paid. The MB dealer calls in the claim and they pay immediately with a credit card to the dealer.

I have a 20 dollar deductable and it covers EVERYTHING except wear and tear - like brakes, tires, shocks (unless leaking defective). Covers radio and all electronics. I would have paid thousands out of pocket and I still have over a year left on the the coverage. Coverage is through AutoWarranty Broker. There is another that is also good called WarrantyDirect. I think they will even cover wear and tear items. Don't know if they will cover the command unit or it may be an option.

Shop around there are a few good companies out there. I purchased a GL550 in January and will start getting quotes soon. I think the earlier you sign up they give you a discount on the premium. When I bought the GL I got a quote and it was in the high 4K range.

I was only considering the MB extended coverage. I decided to keep my money and "self insure"

I was doing a lot of research on this topic. I compared MB with many other 3rd party. I ended up going with Mercury Platinum. I got 6 yr 100k including extra electronic package that covers navi/dvd for 3k with no deductible. I would say most important thing is to read the contract of all of them very carefully. I got it from my local crdit union since Mercury doesn't sell direct. I can get you info if you want to contact for quote.

Just bought one with my '05 CL65 purchase - car had 39900 miles on it--
factory authorized (chryslerservicecontracts) warranty $2995 for 70K miles\5 yrs (from date of contract purchase) - bumper to bumper - $100 deductible - transferable to next owner for $50----
does not cover brake pads, tires, trim, body panels, but everything electrical and mechanical is covered, including all the air suspension stuff and shocks....
with an alternator costing $1200, i thought it worth it...

pm if you wanna know anything else

govt is supposed to back any warranties.....regardless of someone buying new or an extended....i paid 3K....warranty will foot anything in excess of that after my deductible...that is, of course, if anything breaks.... :)
