Evosport and MBBS Racing teamed up to build a Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series race car, set to compete in the SCCA World Challenge GT series. The car will debut at the season finale Cadillac Sonoma Grand Prix on August 25th.
Behind the wheel of the AMG CLK63 will be veteran driver Craig Stanton, who has competed once in World Challenge and took home a victory in that 2009 Long Beach outing. He’s also a former champion in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the Rolex Sports Car Series, and a multi-time class winner in the American Le Mans Series.
Even though we’ll only see the car compete once this season, the team plans on being a regular full-time presence in the 2013 season of the Pirelli World Challenge. The number-24 MBBS – Evosport Engineering AMG CLK63 Black Series has undergone a lot of testing in the recent months, and the team looks plenty prepared to take on the likes of Porsche, Audi, Cadillac, and Chevrolet.
“It has been a long road to get here, but I am very excited that we get to finally take our AMG CLK63 Black Series racing,” said Stanton. “The car is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait for the racing world to see what the guys at Evosport Engineering have been working on this year. It is a work of art, and in my experience, cars that look fast ARE fast.”
