Tony it's OK to drive a w202 benz but you don't have aspire to a 25 year old TV program about cops that utilize items taken from coke dealers who don't put socks on.

Look I see Tubbs in a rowboat fishing now!

agreed, wheels fall off it happens, but it can be prevented , checking suspension assembly regulary for weak rust spots, cracked bushings , loose parts etc....should keep everything together ,.hehe:)

Hi,
I can't believe that your saying that Negligence on my part caused this, It snowed and I drove my car in it.. The salt and dirt in the picture is from driving appr. 100 miles back and forth to work,(Round trip) I wash the car a day or two after the snow fall because THEN the roads are cleaned off..otherwise I'd be washing the underneath NIGHTLY..( SEE the snow in the pictures) and like I said it would have been hard for me drive to the car wash.. THE only way that this was my fault was by my driving it in the snow the first place.. I'm not bashing Mercedes ( I've owned 3) I'm just trying to warn people to keep a close watch on their lower control arms....

its not negligence stuff happens like that , im just saying i myself came very close to a couple catastrophic failures in the suspension on previous cars because i didnt check everything out regularly, it can happen and it will happen but the chances of it not happening are much greater if examined regulary

Well I received another Email today that a girl lost her lower control arm and front tire while driving... I wish Mercedes would notify people that have 5 -15 year old Mercedes with these lousy lower control arms... The good news is she wasn't hurt..

1999 Mercedes E320 with defective lower control arms

It was a 1999 Mercedes E320 with defective lower control arms ( Rusted thru from the inside out) I'm hoping she sends me pictures...So if you have ANY MODEL Mercedes from the 80's or 90's have someone look at your lower control arms for Internal rust

my control arms are fine and never heard of anyone else having this issue. there are holes in the control arms to allow for drainage... i cant see how they would just rust and fall apart.

Some have holes in some don't ... On my 1995 c220 One had a hole the other didn't.. My 99 c280 is the same..
I think the problem is that once the water and salt gets in there the drain does little..all 4 arms were bad... I know of 4 other cars with the same fate, front wheels falling off of 1980-1999 mercedes....The control arms look fine from the outside

I have heard of several, from this very thread.

I'm sure we don't suffer this in California either but people that live in snowy or muddy regions could easily get those drain holes plugged up. And salt don't help.

Yiiikes thanks for the heads up. I will check both my "California" cars tonight and make sure the drain holes are working and spray with lube in there. I change my oil from the drain plug on the bottom also and I believe this is the best way of keeping away problems.
