amie2, this a great info, thank you.
It is about M 104.992 engine, I am looking for code related camshaft adjuster control malfunction. With other word: where from we could know, if the adjuster does not function? According OBD II code list there is not existing kind of malfunction. Neither check engine light, nor faulty code. Please help.

regards
peter

The ODB II codes won't apply to the 1995 or the 1994 if either one of those is the car in question.
You will need the MB Star system or a high end shop tool like the Snap-On Solus with the Euro package to get the correct way into the diagnosis system of the car.

thank you. It is not about 94 or 95 models. MB build 96-97 W210 model E320 with the same M104.992 engine, with the same camshaft adjustment system. W 210 already had OBD II, I just wondering, why there no malfunction code, how they know (where from?) if the camshaft adjuster not working, not in function.
Actually how you check this function? I made a parallell connector and hooked up an indicator lamp in the cabine. After normal ride, over 1200 RPM light should indicate the magnet get power ( actually there is common positiv, and the negativ switch on the ECM)

Summary, we have Star system and Snap On scan tools, but Mercedes doesnt release info about this malfunction. If yes, where is the code in the list?

Code Questions on my 2002 SL500.
I have some questions on the codes and sensors as a newbee:
My BAS and ABS lights are coming were on for two weeks and then the other day they both went out and were back on yesterday for about 30 minutes and now they are off.
The codes are C1140 and C1504. My mechanic put in a new steering gear box last week. Not sure if replacing the gear box has anything to do with the lights going off now?
Also, the check engine light has come on a couple of times and the code is Air Mass Flow Sensor? It too is off now. What does the AMF sensor do? Thanks,

Beard, you're likely to get better advice in the R129 forum as that is specific to your car.

That said, both of the C codes relate to play in the steering column that causes the steering angle sensor to lose memory. That certainly sounds related to the work your mechanic did. Did you also check for codes before the work?

The MAF (mass airflow sensor, aka air mass sensor and a few others) measures the volume of air being drawn into the engine and sends that information to the ECU, which then adds fuel based upon that volume of air, engine load, temperature, throttle position and other relevant data. The MAF on your car also incorporates the IAT (intake air temp sensor) which is separate on some cars. This is also critical information for proper operation.

Bottom line, if your MAF is bad, you need to change it. You didn't mention which code(s) you got that led you to the MAF, but if you're upwards of 80K miles it's possibly done. Do yourself a favor and purchase a genuine bosch MAF assembly from a trusted vendor, avoid ebay inserts, etc. If they don't work properly (though they may turn off the light) they will not properly regulate fuel mixture, which among other things can ruin your cats, which are really costly.

Hope that helps.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

dtc codes

I took my 1999 C280 sport in for a change of spark plugs and spark plug wires, at a local shop, when the tech was finish, he said 4 dtc codes came up, p0400, p017, p0173 and p0105. These codes were not there when the car went in, what would change this now, and am i getting hustled by the shop. They told me it would cost about $500 to fix all issues or is there something i can do to correct then code myself.

I know about the air injection stuff, that shouldn't cause limp mode?

Do the codes reset themselves when the problem is fixed, or do they need to be reset manually? And how long or how many drive cycles are required before one can say "that was the problem, because the codes are not coming back"? thank you.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good scan tool? I'm looking for one that has SRS, ABC etc. Not looking to spend huge $ as I'm a DIY guy. I was looking at Launch CRP129.

Any insight would be appreciated.
