Read more about the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Debuts Race Ready at AutoGuide.com.Mercedes’ latest sports car is ready to hit the race track.
Revealed to the public at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the AMG GT3 packs more power and a ton of aerodynamic upgrades compared to the road-going car, not to mention a lighter curb weight.
Unlike the AMG GT’s 4.0-liter turbocharged V8, the GT3 version uses the same naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 that powered the previous SLS GT3, hooked up to a six-speed manual transmission. In that car, horsepower was rated at 548, which will likely be near the same for the new GT3. Mercedes chose to forgo the new turbocharged powerplant thanks to the 6.2-liter’s high-revving nature and its proven reliability at the race track.
