Oh, you want more serious ideas? Then you could help us by letting us know your location, year of your vehicle and any symptoms you are seeing. Does it crank? Has the battery ever been replaced? Thanks.
hi,no the battery has never been replaced not needed to,yes the engine turns over but wont fire! it was running abit lumpy when i parked it up its a 52 plate thanks
Sure, could be a crank sensor. Could be coil packs. Could still be the battery, a weak battery can crank but not fire. Could be a huge vacuum leak. Could be a bad fuel pump. Time to start checking for the basics: spark, fuel, compression.
Yeah, no spark could be a CPS. If there is no spark either the computer is missing a timing signal, the computer is not getting enough voltage or something serious and underlying has failed. What's the battery voltage while cranking? I'm not certain of the test for the CPS, you will probably need to look in the service manual unless another member here has it.
im not sure of the battery voltage while cranking but the garage said that was all fine?! 4 people have looked at it now and said they wont touch a merc! common faults are crank sensor so im told and its hard to change them?!!
The crank sensor is buried pretty well, yeah. It is a common fault on the V6 engine but I haven't seen many posts about them going on the 4-cylinder here. If the garage tested the battery voltage while cranking then it is likely to be a sensor problem. Might be worth paying a main dealer to at least do the diagnostic, since they can hook up Star Diagnostic and look for sensor inputs.
