Hi Forrera

This is what all the mechanics who have looked at it think - hence why its been through so many drive shafts. My understanding is that each time they are replacing the entire drive shaft..

My latest mechanic who only does Mercs, kept the car for a week as he was so intrigued by the problem and wanted to work it out for his piece of mind . he claims he took the drive shafts off his car which does not have the problem and fitted them to mine and the problem still persisted. He then took the drive shafts back on his car and it as fine. He was adamant the drive shafts were the issue but says he has never seen this situation before.

Don’t worry. You are not hallucinating. My B180 petrol has the exact same problem from day 1. I am in Melbourne and got new tyres when I bought the car used. Did wheel alignment and balancing. Made no difference whatsoever.

I never let it bother me - that’s my solution!

Hey Wiggler,

When you accelerate, do you hear (as well as feel) a grinding, whirring noise? Shift into Neutral and accelerate, do you still feel it or hear it? If not, then maybe it is your main differential bearnings. I think there are 2 on this car. Replacing them may help, but I think it is quite expensive. Best to get a transmission expert to diagnose through test drive.

No Grinding wiring noise when accelerating, only a slight wobble wiggle from side to side. Some days its very noticeable, other days not so bad. Occasionally no wiggle wobble at all.

Its gotten no better or worse after 18 months of many attempts at fixing. I just live it with it now.

Have you had the spark plugs changed recently? I notice you have a turbo, and these cars are notorious for eating up plugs. they should be changed every 60k kms. The wobble you feel could be little misfires. Does it shake roughly at idle after driving for a while, with a warm engine? These misfires don't necessarily trigger an engine light. The turbo plugs are harder to get to, and require a bit more time and skin from the knuckles. If you haven't changed the plugs in the last 50k, I would start there.

Same issue

Hi I have a B200D aut. from 2006 and have exactly the same issue, it starts with a wiggle/wobble at low speeds and is a heavy vibration under load at higher speeds. I have had everything checked and 2 new driveshafts and all new engine and gearbox mounts replaced. Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue?

mine does the same. I have replaced long driveshaft twice and the problem continues. they say it is a driveshaft issue. actually, after replacing driveshaft for a few days it stopped making this and then started again. Are all the w245 driveshafts on the market faulty?
Ichecked the shaft and it was ok. no play inside or anything. I would like to know the wobbling mechanism of it. I thought a little play inside the driveshaft cause balance issues and it creates this wobble. But without any loose part or play how could it cause wobbling? Every shaft with other brands also creates this at the same speed.

Have you checked steering shaft. My car has a small play between the steering shaft and the outer cover that holds the grease. So at 100kph I usually feel one wheel vibrating and wobbling.

It's worth checking.

did you resolve this ? first step is yes , check spark plugs and coils , two like most of the A class and B class suffer can be ABS sensors failure OR speed sensors in the CVT transmission a good scan tool such as even a simple AUTEL MD802 will give you all the error codes that your model suffers.
now final end as i really need to find a decent repairer of my speed sensors of the transmission .

Hi there. I hope this answer can serve those who will face same/similar issues in future. Sometimes what causes issues is so small, experts wouldn't even bother looking at it...
TL : DR
Make sure your coolant level is 'as advised' and not 'more'.

The longer version
I ended up here because I recently ran into the same issue: strong wobbling while accelerating (almost at any speed), smooth drive while non-accelerating. Could not find any answer though. In my case I figured out the issue myself.
The night before I saw an error message (B200) asking to top up coolant. So I bought some coolant, mixed it with distilled water and made the refill. Am no car expert, but looked up a few YouTube videos on coolant top-up procedures (no disrespect to the experts in the house). While filling the coolant, I noticed that there is still so much to fill into the coolant container… so I made it full (way beyond marking). Switched on the engine, coolant warning light was no more there. I went to bed.
Next morning first thing while leaving the parking lot, I feel a severe wobbling on steering wheel and gas pedal while accelerating. when I reached office I asked some colleagues whether topping up 'too much' of coolant would do any harm or cause any side effects, they said it should not be any issue. I still had my doubts, because I felt it couldn't be coincident. I thought of siphoning the excess coolant somehow. After having done so and reaching the coolant container marking, I made my test drive... and voila! All good, no shivering, no wobbling, no nothing.

Hope this helps

My w245 had acceleration vibration, and lot of parts changed, but now i noticed when the knocking/ticking of purge valve begins engine starts shaking slightly, i found there is little rubber hose that was broken and fixed it, seems to run better and feels like there is more power

Vibration didnt completely stop, but not vibrating every acceleration, could it be dirty egr. Found out that this is valve for air intake system, and that area was covered with black dust, going to clean the valve and some sensors and keep fingers crossed.

Do let us know the outcome after cleaning and inspecting this.
Cant say about vibration yet, short testing no vibration but time shows, power is better then before and my daughter said its less noisier then before, idle is smoother also, and that purge valve ticking isnt so loud then before. I think its eaten dust because that short hose was broken.
