mechanic and oil leaking

582 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  xvvvz
Since my car is leaking oil I took it to mechanic, and he said he can't tell me wherres its leaking until I take the car to some place so they can take off oil. Is this true? Or should I go to another mechanic?

it is true... with a mess of oil it is hard to pinpoint where the leak is coming from exactly... I would definitely find a MB Independent to take your car too.

you really shouldnt have to. if its cleaned off, and its leaking enough to see where its coming from they can probably tell you just by looking at it. once its clean you will be able to clearly see the source of all the oil.

Absolutely necessary? No. Good idea? Probably. The mechanic probably wants to take the easiest/more sure route and get things cleaned. I don't blame him since it means a better chance of getting it right the first time.
