Wow, can’t thank you guys enough for all your help. Got my car to TDC,(85, 380sl) right/left cam are right on (left side cam is off about 1/16 if that), however the crank marking measuring the chain stretch is a whopping 14 degrees off. The right chain guide broke off and I was able to retrieve all the pieces. Still runs pretty strong but I am going to park the car until I find a repair shop. Only have one quote at $1800 for labor and parts. Don’t know if that is a fair price for Arizona (Tucson). Well thanks again.

Yeah, fourteen degrees is probably too much to drive on. What did that $1800 include? Sprockets as well as the other bits? How many miles on the car?

I just got a second quote two days ago for the same job. Shop has been in business 25 years and owner has tons of experience on these cars, although many years ago. He quoted $600- $850 labor plus parts. He offered to make a list of the parts and prices and then give me the option of letting him supply them or get my own. I thought that was very fair. I am still leaning toward doing the job myself, but this seems like a good quote.

Sounds like a good quote dgosh28, but since you have it open, it probably makes sense to procede. (pour some oil or assembly lube over the shiny parts of the cams so they don't rust while you have the engine open for so long in the Houston humidity)
