I'm considering adding an MCS or Comand with navigation to my '98 ML. Have read many posts about people retrofitting Comand units and being very satisfied, but I'm not sure of the differences between the two systems. The Comand is a few hundred dollars more than MCS. Can anyone fill me in on the primary differences between the two and provide any recommendations?

If you install an ML Command unit you most likely cannot get a Nav disk for it for the US as they are not used here. I would go with the MCS. Its a major project in a 98. Question, why on earth would you invest that money in a 8 year old vehicle. Save your pennies and trade for a newer one.

The actual MCS install takes about 5 minutes. Adding NAV will take about 1 hour so the install is not a very big project at all. Finding the 3 EURO parts is the hardest thing. As for the investment, the whole thing is plug and play! You can remove everything and re-install your original equipment in less than 1 hour and sell everything on ebay! [:D]
