Hey guys!

I know I've kicked the idea of retrofitting navi in my 99 ML320, but since I've only found one place that sells the CAN-BUS adapter (they want about $500) I've decided to scrap that idea for now. I still have the MCS and want to verify that it's plug and play even in a 99. I believe it to be so, but just wanted to verify!

Thanks!
SAM

It depends on what model year the MCS is pulled from. There are about 10 different MCS part numbers. Chances are good that it will work since most of the MCS on the online market is from older years. New fiberoptic connections started in 2001. There were also pin changes in the latest model years.

The two non Fiberoptic MCS units that will work in a 1999 ML are;
163-820-04-86
163-820-21-86

Ah I probably should have thought about part numbers in the first place! My part number is A 163 820 04 86 which Mike verified. I knew that part would work for the nav upgrade, but it never dawned on me that it would work without the nav upgrade! Silly me!
Last question, is it true that I will lose AM reception? I've heard in some cases this is true.

Thanks,
SAM

Neither can I but I read on this forum (it was a pretty old post) that a loss of AM reception could occur. I'm at college and won't have a chance to do the swap until this weekend, so I'll figure out then I guess.
