On a '00 430, after running an errand and re-starting the vehicle, the MSC panel opened and would not close or power up. The single cd slot does eject and accept cds but nothing happens and the unit will not close. Could it be a fuse? It also seems to continue to make a continuous noise long after the car is shut down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Been there done that, pulling fuse #21 and reinserting it always works for me. You'll have to punch in the security code for the radio to get things up and running again. The Mercedes Experience, Unlike Any Other. [;)]

Does anyone know if there is a permanent fix to the MCS failure?
We had similar problems with our MCS and the MCS was eventually replaced by the dealer. We haven't had the freezing-up problem for a while (touch wood), but our MCS sometimes has difficulty reading the nav disk when it's cold. Re-inserting the disk will eventually fix it, and since the car is now out of warranty, I am unlikely to fix it unless it breaks completely.
