For some time now many have posted of issues with online registration for a subscription for the MBUSA EPC. jaymaynard has been in contact with MBUSA Support and posted this...

jaymaynard said:
If you need to register for the EPC, you have to call Mercedes-Benz USA Customer Care at 1-800-FOR-MERCedes (367-6372). Online registration processing is broken and has been for some time. When you call, they'll get your information and forward a case to an internal support engineer, and he'll set up the account. When I asked for mine, I got it within a day.

I have a tip or two...
but it is not adviseable under the etiquette to talk of it.

Perhaps ducduckgo.com this and see where it gets you.:
n. A turbulent, swift-flowing stream.
n. A heavy downpour; a deluge.
n. A heavy, uncontrolled outpouring

Also, see my post above about Ruskie site that does the same

here's a preview.

I just went this route discussed on this topic. Works well. Won't update, but have not run into too many part number issues that I can remember. Simple to install and VM comes on the disc so it is an all in one.

I have noticed some thread hijacking to discuss this EPC alternative. Maybe members should post the discussion on this thread instead. Just a suggestion.

On another EPC note. I received this when launching it this morning: https://retailfactory.mercedes-benz.com/EPC-net/whatsnew/html/index_en.html?refresh=true

Someone posted this on PeachParts after accessing MBUSA EPC:

"Dear EPC user,
As previously communicated, the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) will be gradually replaced by the new parts information from July to November 2018 and sundowned.
Please contact your EPC contact person for the precise point in time of the sundown and information on its successor solution."
Sounds like eBay may soon be the only way to get EPC for older cars.

Many of the eBay auctions now require large downloads. In past they shipped on CD or DVD and some still do. Saw one that shipped on USB stick.

But today saw this on-line version for EPC/WIS etc from Germany:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/273348460184

At $9.99 for 1 month access OK for one-time use. But no good for many of us!

This is from the page I linked. Don't know what is going on. I still see a page.

"EPC - What's New - 07/2018

Dear EPC user,

As previously communicated, the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) will be gradually replaced by the new parts information from July to November 2018 and sundowned.
Please contact your EPC contact person for the precise point in time of the sundown and information on its successor solution."

Tried same link in Internet Explorer with similar result:

This page can’t be displayed

•Make sure the web address https://retailfactory.mercedes-benz....l is correct.
•Look for the page with your search engine.
•Refresh the page in a few minutes.
Could be that the page is still in your cache so still loads on your computer.

I get the 404 from Rowdie's link in 16 also.

I'm hoping that this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/261923291431?rmvSB=true
is a CD or DVD- I don't upgrade/update my computer OS any more than I do my cars ;)

On that link it asks me to choose from 2 kinds of engines on their drop down list:
4.5L 4520CC 276Cu.In. V8 GAS SOHC Naturally Aspirated
4.5L 4520CC V8 GAS SOHC Naturally Aspirated

Which one am I? How can I tell?

Turns out it doesn't matter, neither of these are covered by this EPC :(

eBay EPC

On that eBay link:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/261923291431#vi-ilComp
It now says its the 2018 version, not the 2014 version mentioned in this thread. I wrote to the seller asking if it actually would cover my '72 and explained that I knew it was listed as only from 1986 but I had read here that the same link covered back to '76.
They haven't answered.
Its not so much to spend to find out but if anyone knows if this later version also will suffice please let me know?

The EPC should cover all Benzes. It's just the WIS/ASRA that are limited to posy86 card.

I need to get a new one (My dvds won't load anymore). Already wasted $10 on one that I could not get installed. It was also a very large download.

For epc, I have been using this site:https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/epc/mercedes/

Thank you, MB Graham, that's a great site! Bookmarked!
But I just tried that site and it wont accept my VIN. My VIN on my title starts with 107 and its only 13 digits, the site wants 17 digits, I tried zero filling on the left and right, it said this VIN is absent from their database.
:(

What's a WIS/ASRA? (Found that one out)
I'll buy the frikin EPC... not sure if my Windows computer works.

While I was perusing that ebay item it suggested a couple more things that looked really good so I bought them:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/152910191109
https://www.ebay.com/itm/202322585169
partially I bought them because I dont like being held hostage to Mercedes online changing their policies and which computer OS and version and Java and things not installing... why wouldn't your DVDs load?
Well a book is a book, it always works! And its of the same time as the car (and me). (I think I just learned the book=WIS/ASRA)
I'm also bidding on a service manual that ends tomorrow, dont anyone please bid against me!:devil
When I get these books, if anyone needs anything just lemme know. :)

Mostly at this time I just want to know what that frikin chrome part is called so I can start searching for it!

I have 4 paper manuals for my 72 (engine, chassis (2), Climate control) . They have been well used over the years!

The WIS/ASRA/EPC DVDs just won't load on any of our computers. Can't see anything wrong with them. Gave up and will buy new set or try another download. I use WIS for our newer cars - no paper or even DVD manuals available for them.

Same here, but sometimes useful when something was changed midway during a model year. Once you enter a VIN, it is stored in EPC, so next time it is easier.

By the way, the dealer parts guys always enter the VIN into EPC before looking up parts. They have the VINs on file, so it is easy for them.

Just to add some more data, I bought the downloadable version of the EPC. After payment, you get a link to download some huge files and instructions on how to decompress them into a VirtualBox image. You then run that as a virtual computer in the (free) VirtualBox app. It seems to require network access, so likely can be disabled at some point by MB if they so desire.

It works okay for EPC, but WIS does not cover my 1987 560SL (despite claiming to cover all cars 1986+).

I also host a copy of the maintenance manual here: Model 107 Maintenance Manual Index

#39 ·
Not to be picky, but that link is to the Service Manual (there is such a thing as a maintenance manual that just applies to service jobs).

Regardless, that is a great link you have provided and Steve Nervig's front end makes navigation a lot easier than even my paper manuals!

Thanks for posting that - Now already in my favourites!

MODS: Maybe the link should go in EGV107 alongside the not so easy to navigate Startekinfo link.

The CD set I bought a couple of years ago says it covers 1984-2016 but everything for my 75' 280SL is there,
just like StarTek. Only problem I had, it was copied using Windows XP and on my W10 equipped PC took literally 10 minutes to boot up.
Answer was to not close the program but just suspend it. Now have the VMware icon on the program bar, one click and it opens.

I bought 2017 WIS/ASRA/EPC off eBay. Download from UK! Cheap! C$3.34 !

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-2017-Me...r-Workshop-Manual/232960731341?hash=item363d8aa8cd:g:uMQAAOSw40pbscbd:rk:2:pf:0

The seller sent me very clear installation instructions (In English!) plus links to download files. Files are large and on a file sharing site. But they are downloading OK. About an hour and half each of four plus VM and ZIP. Should be done tonight.

This mainly for EPC, but also WIS for our 98 W210 and 14 GLK. Hopefully it will work better than my no longer working disks!

Got this installed. Wouldn't work at first and had to download latest version of Oracle VMware plus the extension pack to allow usb etc.

Have it working now. But one thing I had on 2014 version, that I cant remember, is how to add a printer or even Cute pdf writer. Working on that right now!

I bought the system from eBay about a year ago. It has everything I need, including the virtual machine part, and it works perfectly. I run it under Windows 7 and it brings up a virtual Windows 10 machine. I has EPC and WIS/ASRA. I've only used the EPC part. A little tough to understand at first but after a while it starts to make sense. It would help to think like a German and then maybe the category they put some of the parts under might make more sense. :smile

I had a previous version as well as access to the MBUSA EPC before that. So quite used to EPC. Even helped parts guy at dealer find things for my old cars :)

WIS is harder to search and navigate. But it was very useful when troubleshooting our W210.

Part 4 almost finished downloading :) Probably leave installation until tomorrow. (maybe not - I am going to remove wheels and rotors from our W210 to see why they are pulsing/vibrating. :) )
