I am interested in finding the best "local" garage.
Bought mine in Edmonton, not impressed.
I would like to know who is and is not impressed with their garage so I can get the best service available.
PM me if you do not want to post details in the Forum.

Not impressed with the dealer in Chelsea. Rather annoying actually not helpful at all still waiting for a quote which he was supposed to send me 3 months ago.
My dealer in tooting was much more helpful. We will see what happens once I have the car... and he has the money.

It's a sad fact but I don't think I've ever heard a good word about any MB garages. I got on OK with mine but then they didn't really do anything apart from take me on a test drive, take my money, give it a wash. I don't think there any worse than the other german marques, BMW and Audi. I looked at three cars originally the Z4, the Audi Cab and the SLK 350. All sales reps were equally unimpressive, Audi being the worst by far it was like I was being annoying to them wanting to buy a car even though I had two audi's already. I let MB off as the car wasn't even announced. The best salesman in the world wasn't going to sell me the Z4.

Porshe were very nice but I didn't like the new boxster looking just like the old one.

I wish for the day where you can just order a car direct from the manufacturer and do away with the dealers.

You could then just take your car to specialist approved local garages for servicing.

I also don't like the way that all of the MB dealers in my area are all owned by the same group. I would have to drive miles if I ever fell out with them.

Tony Purslow in Guildford seemed nice when I went to the SLK launch.

I don't understand why you can't do that in the U.K. while we can order from the factory from the U.S.A. - especially as MB apparantly has a seperate assembly line for custom orders.

I didn't want the selection of options and colors that were on the SLKs in the local dealers, so I ordered mine direct from the factory, with just the options and color combo that I wanted. There was a month's wait to build it, then another 6 weeks for it to get to California by sea (thru the Panama Canal). I even got a $2000 reduction compared to the full price the dealer would have charged, so it was certainly well worth waiting a couple of months.

Can anyone explain why you guys in the U.K. can't have the same arrangement? Makes no sense at all to me.

I have been fairly pleased with MB-Hampstead - their service centre is based in Queens Park (but I think they are moving nearer to Hampstead). They have done a reasonable job on my 4 year old R170 200K always happy to give me a loan car etc.

I will continue to use them when my obsidian black 350 arrives in a few weeks - I cannot wait!!!

Tony Purslow has popped up twice now, shame its the other side of town from me in the NE. I am at MB Hampstead today to look at my oil consumption, though no chance of a loan car without several weeks notice. I see they are by the tube though ,which helps. Hopefully we can keep this thread going to share our collective experience over time.

Hi - I bought my car via Tony Purslow Guildford and they have been pretty good so far. I have had some faults including the ESP sensor problem and the 350 oil consumption problem and they have been helpful and cooperative. MB are building the new Brooklands experience centre near me in Surrey, so it will be interesting to see how this affects local dealers and what quality of service they provide in 12 months time.

I've mentioned several times on this forum that my particular dealer(s) in Switzerland, are really great.
I have no issues with them, they're always helpful and willing to address your issues immediately [:D]

Chris, what was the outcome of your 350 oil consumption problem with them?

Steer clear of Hughes in Beaconsfield.

Tony Purslow of Guildford and/or Hindhead get my vote everytime. Shame that I am now about 50 miles away from the [:(]

I've found with my local dealer, that the Sales team is absolute rubbish - they just have no interest in trying to sell you their cars. [:(!]

But the Service team and Parts team are brillant, and they know what is going on and are amazingly helpful and cheery!!! [:D]

Keep well away from the one in Slough.

They decide on whether to sell you a car, only if they think you are worthy of one.

Yep Tony Purslow is the one for me.

They are really helpful - they have had the car back twice so far under warranty.

Good news is the Hindhad branch is only 2 miles away [:D]

Purchased the car from Macclesfield as they could order to spec quickly otherwise TP in Guildford would have got the order.

Needless I have not heard from MB in Macclesfield since they got the money. Cant blame them really but a 'how you getting on' call would have been nice.

Here's how to buy off MB direct - well almost. I got my 350 through a broker I found on the web. They got me into my car - UK supplied/spec/warranty - in 4 months compared to the 10 months at best I was being told by the local dealers. They would not tell me how they sourced their cars initially but I found out that it was from MB Corporate Sales who are based in Ealing West London. I checked this out by ringing MB Corporate and sure enough it was true. I did not manage to get anything off list price but neither did I have to pay a premium as a lot of brokers charge. The rub is you still have to deal with the stealerships for any after sales stuff - like I am with this ****ing knocking noise I have had from day one - and yes they are mostly crap in my experience.
The broker was pretty crap as well - once he had got my deposit - but if you want to try : Buyacar.co.uk.

Hi Joyfulheart
MB as part of their proposed dealer restructuring decided to build 3 customer experience centres around the UK to enhance the brand! They are supposed to be a bit like Niketown etc. So they bought a big chunk of Brooklands race circuit and are currently building the centre. I understand that it will include big new and used car showroom, test track for demonstrations and a 4x4 test track. Originally they were not going to include servicing facilities but I think it now does have servicing because of the dealer fightback against closing many of the dealerships. So it should be state of the art. David Coulthard is financing the construction of a new luxury hotel adjacent to it too. I think it's due for completion in about 9 - 12 months time

Sorry slk-gill I'm answering the wrong question - please see above answer

Tony Purslows checked the engine for leakage but found nothing amiss. The oil consumption has slowed down a bit now so I'm hoping all will be OK. At least I've got my problem on record if it does get worse. I'm nearly up to 8k miles since December and since running in my usage has beeen the same each day - a 60ml round trip commute to central London including m-way driving and traffic jams.

DO NOT!!! let the MB mechanics at Dartford near your car, the sales team and service(office)staff cannot be faulted - in fact I would go as far as recommending them. But the mechanics wear ten gallon hats and six shooters, they seem incapable of working on a car without damaging it or covering it in oil & grease. Shame really because I've got to find a decent place like you now.
