Are they, or are they not still together now?

Officially they are no longer together (thank the car gods!!!), but some products are shared. Crossfire and Sprinter are examples.

They're only 20 percent together now. Last year Daimler sold 80 percent of Chrysler to Cerberus Capital Mgmt., a private equity firm, but still holds a 20 percent interest. Cerberus brought in Robert Nardelli to be the new CEO of Chrysler. Mr. Nardelli was previously the CEO of Home Despot where he did an notably poor job except for on his own personal compensation. Apparently the thinking is that since Mr. Nardelli has no automotive industry experience the outcome might be different at Chrysler.

That was one of the lamest and most costly mergers in the history of business in the Western world. No value added.

good thing is that Mercedes is back to making cars, instead of saving an american company.
They did little to "save" Chrysler... more so Chrysler side tracked them, ruined their reputation and stole a great deal of their money.

They paid $36 billion and then sold 80 percent for $7.4 billion - a valuation of $9.2 billion. Not sure what the cummulative operating profit/loss was, but it wasn't pretty.
