Here is what my dealer (Bill Ussery Motors, Coral Gables) informed yesterday. The pricing quoted is very close to what I was told a v60 MB phone & cradle would be about 18 months ago!:

"Yes blue tooth is available. You'll need to contact# 1-800-266-7746 or email your request to WWW.getAWS.COM to see if your phone is compatible. If you have the phone cradle installed in your vehicle the cost for the cradle is $600.00 + tax however if you do not have a phone installed in your vehicle the cost is $2800.00 + tax."

My car is "pre-wired" for a phone and I don't have a cradle installed. I have a Cingular RAZR. I think I'll be looking at other options. . . eBay for a cradle perhaps?

There is no cradle for a Razr, I dont think Motorola even makes a kit for it. The MB install requires a V600 or so type phone. The Razr is BlueTooth compatible and Moto makes a BlueTooth adapter for it, but it still does not interface with the MB audio system. They also sell a kit but not to you, installers only, which is stupid.

I know there is no cradle for the RAZR. The cradle is for the Puck (a/k/a adapter). The Puck then connects to the RAZR, etc., etc., . . . .

You don't need the cradle. If your car is prewired for the MHI, then all you need is to install the MHI(gotta get the voice recognition). Once the the MHI is installed all you do is buy the Mercedes bluetooth module($350), plug into the recepticle where normally the cradle would attach to, and that is it. I just did this with my 2006 E55. I bought the car with the MHI installed and I purchased the bluetooth module from the www.wireless4mb.com. Installation of the bluetooth module is very simple. All you do is plug it in and follow the instruction on connecting your phone to the system. If you are technically savy you can install the MHI yourself and have the dealer activate the phone function in your car. If you need picture just let me know.

Agreed. Not sure how you got to talking about the V60 with the dealer when you knew you already had a RAZR. If your car has the MHI handsfree communication option installed (the telltale sign is the cradle connector in the upper part of your lower console bin) then the $350 MHI bluetooth module is the only thing you'd need to make the RAZR work.

Yes. I took a picture of the connector:

So what would it take to get a 2002 C320 Wagon BT raedy, so that the RAZR would be fully integrated with the existing Audio system ?

From what I know the car fully wired for phone operation all the way to the notorious error message "1 malfunction" from the V60 not being present.
I do not have a console cradle, however.

Thanks !

Peter Leubner recently installed it into a ML, with info, prices and discussion.

How do you know if your phone has MHI installed? I just got an 05 CLK320. The console has the MHI plug. I haven't been able to get a straight answer from any dealer source if my phone is already wired. "Wired for phone" seems to be used to mean - "the phone has a fiber backbone that can be used to install the kit". This is baloney and the full deal retrofit is 1800 according to my dealer - which is way more than it is worth to me.

Is the MHI socket always in the console for 05/CLK320's?? Or does that mean that the kit was installed? I'd cheerfully buy the cradle to charge the phone and the other hands on features.

Inquiring minds and all of that..

Bluetooth Compatibility in 2002 SLK

I took my 2002 SLK32 to the dealer to get it checked for compatibility with the new Bluetooth Cell Phone Option. It has the built in hands free system for a V60 phone. The dealer checked it and tells me I have to have the PSE & Cradle components replaced at a cost of ~$2000. Unbeliveable! . Looks like Mercedes must have used another manufacturer. Between this and the replacing the Mercedes Becker radio 4 times, I have lost all confidence in Mercedes electronics.

BMW has it enabled for vehicles that support the V60 phone. They sell you an option that is the same shape and connector as the V60 phone. You plug it into the cradle (where your V60 plugged) and it enables Bluetooth communication to supported bluetooth phones (you have to get a bluetooth phone but they are almost free when signing up). Seeems to me if the mercedes Bluetooth module
was designed to replace the existing v60 phone as a communications device to a new bluetooth phone - there woud not be any problem - I thinki Mercedes screwed it up and BMW did not screw it up. BMW used a Motorola Bluetooth option

It's been my understanding that if the MHI plug is there then you would have the rest of the system as well. What message is displayed now if you press the "TEL" key? I seem to recall the message is different if the handsfree option isn't installed versus being present but no phone is plugged in...

Call AWS and ask them about the V60 BT upgrade. It plugs into your V60 cradle. Availability might be delayed.

I also have it listed on this info page, about 3 entries down from the top:

It says "No Phone"..

Is that what it says if the kit is not installed??

Or is that what it says if the kit is installed and there is no phone?

Bluetooth Compatibility in 2002 SLK

Thanks for the link - I'll give them a call. Are you sure this is NOT the one that the MB Dealer is offering? This link has the MB logo and offers MB V60 phones

I suspect the dealer understood that you want to upgrade from MB V60 to MHI. It should be simpler to keep the V60 cradle and plug the V60 BT adapter into it once it becomes available which will then allow to use a few other (also non MB branded) phones.

I don't think the MHI socket is standard in all Mercedes unless the car is equipped with the MHI. When I was at the dealer last week, most of the cars don't have MHI and there were no MHI socket in the storage compartment. Do you still have the orginal window sticker? It would state what option you have.

I got the car used from a Benz dealer, so there was no equipment sticker. There were more features and options in it than the dealer thought (CD changer for example). I called three benz dealers and AWS and they all said that I needed the "completer kit" from my dealer yaddada yaddada for 2K. But they didn't really ask many questions. The car was a Benz exec "brass hat" car, so I figured that it was loaded. There is an MHI plug in the console. I kind of thought that the car was wired for phone already given that, but the dealer and AWS said "no".. Someone on this forum said that the phone menu wouldn't show up and "no phone" wouldn't show if the kit wasn't already installed. So I took a chance and ordered the cradle. It will work and I will be happy or I will sell the cradle here and someone here will get a bargain and I will continue to use my bluetooth headset. Interestingly - when I ordered from AWS they don't fulfill the order until a tech confirms that I have the right phone, firmware and what not. Makes sense - but uncommon in the ecommerce world. But this tech - unlike the other people I talked to at AWS confirmed that I seemed to have the phone "completer kit already installed.

Details to follow :)
