So I just replaced the supercharger and the car was running great. I almost ran out of gas and after filling the tank, a block from my home, put my foot in it and the car backfired and stalled. For a little while the car would start, run for 5 seconds and then die. 1/2 hour later the car would start but ran roughly. I changed the plugs thinking I might have fowled one, replaced the fuel filter (hence my other question today) and now the car runs well it's just that the supercharger won't kick in.

If the MAS goes out, will the supercharger not run? I've check all of the connections, rechecked the vacuum lines and am thinking about getting a code reader.

The car has 90,000 miles so I know that a new MAS is likely needed, I just don't want to replace that and find out it's something else.

Oh and Autozone won't let you read codes anymore due to a law here in California that prohibits them from letting their clients borrow the scanner.

Got my code reader today (Amazon $23.00) and confirmed my suspension that the MAS went out with a code P0100 and a Pending P0410. I've ordered a new MAS from Autohaus AZ and will post the results if that cures the problem.

If it is the MAS then I will be able to confirm that the MAS can lead to the loss of the supercharger kicking in.

I would try cleaning the sensor first and see if that works, i cleaned mine every six months because it kept going out almost every six months and always worked fine.

Thanks, I've done that in the past and I tried cleaning it this time as well. Given the sudden and complete stall that occurred this time, I think it's a complete failure. I just replaced the supercharger with a rebuilt from AmericanCharger (Brian) on EBay and not knowing anything about electronics, maybe the MAS was overwhelmed by the newer clutch power flow?

Good News! I received the MAS from Autohauz AZ ($178) yesterday and had my 13 year old make the repair. Cleared the code and went for a test ride. Supercharger kicked right in and the car ran like new :D

This was apparently a total failure of the MAS and I can confirm that when the MAS goes out the supercharger won't kick in under any load. My new code reader only displayed a p0100 and a pending p0410 before the repair.

Special thanks to emofreak4e for confirming that the replacement of his MAS restored power to his supercharger as well.
