Hi all, just wanted to know if someone has ever replaced the integrated circuit in the dome light circuit board, that controls the lights when opening the doors..in my '93 320SL, my lights work independently, but they won't go on when i open the doors. It seems the Philips UAA1250 IC blew and I wanted to replace it. I have one extra but it's from a '90 300SL, part of the numbers match but not all, so I'm looking to find if someone knows if it would work or not. Attached are 2 pics from both cir
cuit boards. Any help appreciated !

IC's notoriously have a whole bunch of different sub-part numbers. Generally I've found that you can "wing it" with just doing PN matches. If you have a space UAA1250, I'd give it a shot, just don't overheat it. Please update this as you try it, as I need to do the same to mine. I have the exact same symptoms as you.

If you haven't done electrical soldering before, I recommend trying/learning on something else first. (Something at least cheap and easily replaceable).

I taught myself when I was younger by taking a working radio, desoldering (almost) everything, and then soldering everything back together.

There also some robotics soldering kits that teach you soldering, and those teach you soldering. A worthwhile skill to learn in general, as the best investment is an investment in yourself!

In general though, you don't want to overheat the chip, so when you heat up the legs of the IC and the pad, quickly apply solder and then move to the next pad/leg. To remove an IC, use a solder sucker with an iron to remove as much solder as you can, and then in a last final step, heat all the legs as evenly as you can and then pull the IC off. Shouldn't be any force or violence. If it's not moving there's cold solder somewhere.
