i know it sounds like a HUGE headache of work and stress, but has anybody been annoyed enough yet with their US model Automatic only car to do a manual conversion? i know there is a manual trans designed for the 3.0 td motor, but has anyone ever installed it and got it to work right on their "formerly automatic" vehicle? interested to know what possibilities await there.

I think the manual conversion is the Holy Grail of get it up and go.

As well there are numerous threads if you search the Online Tech help at the top of the forum page.
We're looking at 2 swaps come springtime.

its not broken, just completely "not shiftable" and obviously no clutch, which has to change sooner or later. i miss having "work to do" while driving.

About five years ago, I changed my 240D from automatic to manual. No problems and the best thing I ever did to that car.

Found a local junkyard with a 5-speed out of a 1987 190e 4 cyliner model. I am sure something of this sort has been discussed before but i could track the specifics down. Anyone know if there is any chance this would fit in my 300td? Yes the manual is the holygrail of w123 upgrades.

I don't think that transmission will fit on a w123. I believe the starter is on the left of the 190's so it won't bolt on properley. Maybe if you have an 87 300d or td.
