Hello:
Has anyone, I would think so, made their 450SL emission free and if this can not be posted might there be a link that I could be referred to.
Thanks

Some years were built without emission controls.

The only way to make an SL or any car emission-free is to park it and throw away the key.

I was thinking about an electric conversion, but unless he has a solar charger, still would have a carbon footprint.

PS: OP has a 1975 D-Jet. That would have cats in engine compartment? I have heard of guys rodding those out and then if needed in their area, installing under car cats. But he does need to explain what he means by emission free.

your right

That was a pretty DA way of asking a way to eliminate all emission control devices. Live in a area that emission is not required.

Find a pair of '72-'74 or '77 up 4.5 107 exhaust manifolds. Buy the appropriate down tubes. If it has an AIR pump cut the belt.

My 280SL was federalized upon reaching the shores of the U.S. and A.

I have since removed everything except the EGR valve. It works, serves a purpose and would mean capping the exaust manifold and the intake manifold. Wasn't worth it, in my opinion.

The cat(s) and airpump WOULD be worth removing, though.

The 75 had added complications to the vacuum advance/retard system and a different distributor to accommodate that. Without digging into exactly how that was supposed to work, probably best to leave it as is? The on-line manual section 14 should explain all, but it is kind of mixed up. Diagram on 14.1-100/1 shows complexity of M117 1975 model. It does show an air pump.

But to try and answer OP question - Has anyone here removed emission controls on 75? If not OP might try sedan forums here and on Peachparts that also used M117 engine. For example W116 series (450SE, 450SEL) & maybe some others.

I know this is an extremely old post but I came into possession of a '75 450SL that is completely devoid of emissions controls. I will take some pictures and make a separate post about it this week or next.

In many states your car would not be able to get a license missing all that equipment. make sure yours isn't one of them.

Could be what is commonly called a Euro model. We can tell you how to identify if it is.
