cost

No more than a regular car, but its gonna last adn last and last.
Since I took ownership of mine 2.5 years ago I've managed to accumulate 110K miles (almost 220 K km I guess). I'm on the verge of 180 K miles. I've had to buy a new battery ($100), distributor cap+ wires ($300), tires ($350) and brakes ($400)...normal consumables. They don't cost a rediculous price either. Find a mechanic you trust and do your normal maintainence. You'll be driving this while your friends will be trading in their 2nd or 3rd car. Performance wise, despite the fact she's 12 years old with all those miles on her it still goes 110 mph and red lines on a regular basis. As a matter of fact I got a ticket last year in Quebec doing 138 kmh, should have been 160 kmh but I had the gumption to tap my brakes.

best of luck

Re: generally very good

Two major issues w/ these cars invlove the flex disc (for automatics) and head gasket leaks. Make sure to check all the work previously done on the car, test drive it, and do a good visual inspection w/ your mechanic (or at least look for leaks/damage on your own).
He's right! I had a leak which my mechaninc found before I purchased, however since it was repaired no issues. Flex disc was replaced at time of purchase and I'm still running fine, however I may replace it for the hell of it, its been 110K miles.
