Hi,
New to forum. I have a SLK 200 (year 2000) with a magma red interior. The interior panelling on the passenger door handle is very faded and almost black. Is there any tips on where to get a replacement or can the panel be touched up (it is plastic)?

IJB - Touch up is the way to go
check this site to determine exact colour of your interior - there are 2 reds (scarlet and crimson) --dealers are loose with the names - go by the number

Half door handle clips off but remainder needs door panel removal - you can do a perfectly good touch up in situ tho' (make sure handle is scrupulously clean first!)

I have a 2001 with magma red 217.Viponds has crimson red 217 available. I'm sure its the same and for 40 bucks worth the try.

The VIN has a colour code of 017 which the local MB dealship has never heard of. Anyone come across this before? Is it the same as 217 do you reckon or would it be a waste of money?

Never heard of another red other than salsa red/Scarlet227 and Crimson217 (yet)

It would be a pretty fair bet that it's crimson 217 (which is sometimes described as Magma red)

Have a look at the red console pics posted in the last few days (page 6-- What to do!!!red paint peeling inside car) and see if that is your colour - the pics look like crimson 217 - you could PM briandale and check the colour

Salsa red/scarlet 227 is a bit more pink

If you really get stumped, mail the little panel under the steering to Viponds - that's how we got all the colours matched

After my last post on 217 paint I got some from viponds and it was an identical match for Magma Red on my 2001.

Sandblast it. I did it. Worked fine.

Finished - the 217 is a very good match for the magma red. It has brightened up the interior no end. The faded red with black poking through is no more. I'll up load photos once the weather improves (convertables are of limited use in Ireland with the bloody weather). Thanks for the guidence. Last thing - can a magma red/ crimson red leather gear stick be got anywhere as the one on mine is very worn looking (it's tiptronic)?
