I own a 98 E300 Turbo Diesel. My check engine light came on. When checked it showed P0100 code. I have read these forums for MAF problems and many said....they got the performance back... once this part was replaced. Many say that they paid $200 for the part...everywhere I call the dealers are saying it is $500 + etc. Can you please guide me with the part # and where to get good geniuine part for vehicle.

Please help!!

That dealer really is a stealer, I got the MAF replaced/installed in my wife's MY00 E430 for well under $300 at the dealer I go to.

tried

I'm going thru this right now,I bought the electric contact parts cleaner and tried to clean my MAF, 99% of the time it does not work, once it's bad enough to throw a code, there is no cleaning it, aftermarket MAF can be found for $150, but reliability is spotty,i bought an aftermarket from FPC Groton and it came faulty out of the box, they were great about a return but still a hassle and not sure if i trust a "new" one from them. and OEM Bosch can be found for $275, google it, there are lots out there.

How difficult to install?

I have a 1999 E 300 TD. My "check engine" light came on. Took car to mechanic, who strapped it up for diagnosis. Tells me the Mass Air Flow Sensor is bad. Gives me a prices of $325 for the part, with more for labor. I tell him to hold off. I check internet and find the part for $140-150 (Bosch OEM).

http://parts.thebenzbin.com
http://alloemautoparts.com

Of these three, autohausaz seems tohave best prices, including dirt-cheap shipping upgrades. Anyone had any expereince with them?

Also, how difficult is this replacement and how do I do it? Are there any tools that I need beside a regular screwdriver?

Some days ago, I bought C200K (1999.) and I have problems with idle. My mechanic said that I have to change the MAF sensor olthough "check engine" light is not on. Do I realy have to replace it (in Montenegro it costs more than 500 $) or first I could try to clean it?
Thanks in advance.

1999 E300 P0100 & P0243 codes "clogged Cat"

I had problems with my 1999 e300 TDI last week. The codes were read and p0100 & p0243 were found. I replaced the MAF sensor with a Bosh unit, cleared the codes. The car drove like a dog with no power. The check engine light came back on with egr and waste gate codes. I switched the transducers and thought I the air leaking sound switched sides. I was wrong infact because switching them back changed nothing! The car still ran very bad and the sound of leaking turbo air was ever present with moderate to full throttle input. I knew the waste gate actuator was functioning ok with either transducer, so my next choice was to do something about my noisy exaust sound coming from my rattling catalitic converter. 30 minutes at the muffler shop and now missing any Cat, and a new resonator installed, THE CAR RUNS LIKE NEW, WITH GREAT POWER AND TORQUE!!:surrender:
