M112 to M113 swap

Would I need to mess with the ecu as well? I know the m113's are directly swappable and plug and play. (430/500/na55) I have been thinking it would be pretty damn sweet to plop one of the hand built NA 5.4l AMG engines into a S211 4 matic and make my own kinda AMG S model. I know with the 500 it is probably pretty easy, should be as easy as just taking the 500 motor out and putting in the AMG motor. Should I sell the 320 wagon I have now and look for a nice 500?

Opinions?

Here's the thing. The 5.4 liter is a direct swap into the e500. It's the same m113 motor, just bored out and different cams ( factory tuned). I wouldn't have to worry about any of that if I just ponied up and bought the E 500. I don't think any of the electronics would need to be changed, yes of course I would get it tuned but I think that is all it would need. You can find some decent shape 5.4 liter AMG engines that go for 1500-1800. So say 2k, plus installation. But I don't think a shop would charge that much to essentially take out a motor and just put it back in again. Maybe 1k at most? Anyone have any experience with shop prices when it comes to this?

I could have a sick AMG powered 4matic wagon! How cool would that be!? I would put headers on the 5.4 while it is out of the car just to avoid having to pay more in the future for installing that. Not to mention more powah!

Can someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong with anything I have just said.

Mattrox - the engine swap you mention is a lot easier said than done, lots of other variables to consider that go along with the M113 K motor. Also, the 5.5L Kompressor engine is not a bored out E500 motor, It uses a different forged steel crank for a longer stroke, different rods, pistons, cams, control unit, unique motor mounts, etc. etc. I could go on. My point is that in the end it would probably be more cost effective and save you lots of hours to just find a clean used one. Besides an E500 wagon, with a chip and exhaust would be no slouch of a car, probably more reliable to boot.
My 2 cents. Cheers.

I never mentioned a K, never brought up the M113K. I am referring to the M113 5.4 NA from the W210 AMG. Which I believe is just about the same engine as the 500 with bored cylinders and a longer stroke. Which is why it has been a huge favorite in the w202 c43 AMG forum for its ease of swappability with being completely plug and play. I'm hoping it's the same for the e500.

I just passed on an E63 wagon for $17k with 47,000 miles.

Why would I do that? I live in the ice and snow belt and it is not 4Matic. It is wickedly fast car by any standard, but I have to able to drive it year round and even
with dedicated snow tires the owner told me it is a handful in anything more than heavy rain.

So a 5.4 M113 or a full AMG 6.3 V8? It is a no brainer. Go for the E63. It will cost less in the long run seeing as E63 prices keep dropping.

Did you ever find you answer here? I’ve been searching for very similar info. I’m looking to getting a m113 to replace my old 112. It’s endured 302k mi and still runs but it needs the timing redone on it. I figure I’d rather swap in a more powerful engine (5.0l) and do a few external mods for a few extra ponies. My concern is the electronics, are they plug and play as well or will I need to recode the ecu at all? I don’t mean for this to be redundant.

It’s more than just buying a car to me, that’s the easy way out, I like chanelling my inner scientist. This is exactly how Mercedes made it. You have to be a scientist to build your dream Benz. Thanks for the advice no doubt
