Will the engine from a W124(M103.983) work in my W126?
Notice only the last digit is different:
W126 M103.981
W124 M109.983
Whats the different?

Mostly the oil pan. The engine will work fine otherwise.

Well my dad found an engine for 1000. Year and mileage is unknown. hopefully I will be able to swap it out and finish by this month

If you've got the engine out, replace all the seals and gaskets you can. VERY VERY easy when it's not in the car. Timing chain, guides, and tensioner should be replaced while you're in there, and you'll easily have another 200,000 miles.
