Over the last 2 days my ML270CDI has started to whine under the front end when accelerating, there is no noise when free wheeling. It is hardly noticable at the moment but can anyone offer advice please as to what this may be, could it be expensive?, how long may it last before I need to sort it out? Many thanks.

You need to fill out your information including the year of your vehicle in your membership setup.

Either the power steering pump (very cheap if taken to an indy) or the cooling fan (moderate) could cause this problem and are common issues on the gasonline models. If those are fine then I would next check the belt tensioner bearings (cheap) or the vacuum pump (no idea of price but these things tend to be bulletproof). If you still can't find it then check the other accessories (compressor, alternator, water pump) could have a bad bearing. If it's the compressor it could be just the clutch (moderate). The alternator is pricey.
