I thought I saw this somewhere but now can't find it. I would like to talk to an MB tech (not dealer, and not 800-FOR-MERCEDES) to ask a question about a spec. Is there a technical line that one can call?

From what I understand this service is only available to authorized service centers.
I believe MB has a roving tech that goes from dealer to dealer to handle so called 'hard problems'. Your dealer might be able to help you meet their tech or at least pose the question you have to him/her.
