Or has this forum just become a forum for 98 and 99 ML's...lt seems like quite a few people are picking up some pretty cheap 98 and 99's...Good luck with them..

I think that the fact the 98s and 99s were the first years of production (therefore more bugs to work out) and they are 8 or 9 year old vehicles now, and things begin to wear out with time.

Nah!! I just got rid of my 01 and purchased an 03 with 11K on it. Absolutely Love it!! Iwas spend 48K on a new CDI and my truck or 38K on a one year old one and my truck, or 17K and mine on this one. Hmmm, I like the W163's!!!

And what's wrong with the 98ML's. The best vehicle I have owned with very little problems in the 9 years of ownership.
On the other hand, my 05 ML500 has been in the shop for 4 of the 9 days of ownership.

My dad bought the 320 for mum in '98 alot of the problems associated with the ML probably could have been fixed under warranty however alot of the problems were not realised while my mum was driving it and no one discovered this site! Then the vehicle was passed on to me ( mom got the 04' X5)

Now with the warranty well expired on its 8th year of owner ship, I have discovered this forum and I am attempting to DIY on as many things as I can. To bad I wasnt older and cared more when the vehicle was newer, perhaps more of these problems could have been fixed free.

it's probably more an age issue than a model issue. Other makes' web forums probably see the same thing. Without having the actual numbers on problems per model year we can only go by what we read and see on the various sites. Also, as models become older and thus cheaper, ownership is typically transfered to younger individuals. And most likely the young are more computer and internet savvy and you see them here on a more regular basis than the older set. I'd have to have the numbers on that as well as the actual % of ML owners who even bother to post on this ML forum. Without that we are just making assumptions that may or may not be true. I guess they are generalizations!

Yeah, ...because this forum is for W163, and this will cover all MLs from 1998-2005. And now is 2007.... 2 years after W163 was re-designed!...

There won't be new stuff here for W163... in my opinion... For new stuff you would need to jump to W164 forum... or trade your W163 for W164 and kiss this forum good bye!...

I think what he's saying is....there aren't the same number of "newer" W163s joining.

I bought our 99 back (after insurance total it) for our son.
$5000 for the wreck + $100 for rear bumper reinforcement and my son has very reliable, clean car. Even with some unrepaired dents and scratches still excellent deal.
