want some more power out of your 300TD engine???
well:
"Manufactured in 1978, 5-cylinder inline OM 617 A, placed before rear axle, longitudinally, standing, four-stroke diesel with pre-chamber injection, mechanically operated Bosch injection pump, turbocharger and intercooler, bore x stroke 90,9 x 92,4 mm, 2999ccm = ca. 183,2 cu in, compression 1:17,5, maximum power output 230 PS (NOT 320 PS!) = 169 kw at 4.200-4.600 revs, maximum torque 403 Nm at 3.700 revs, engine block made from grey cast iron, cylinder head made out of light alloy, detachable, 2 valves per cylinder, one overhead camshaft, driven by duplex-chain, firing order 1-2-4-5-3, one glowplug per cylinder, electrical Bosch starter"

don't believe it (or more info): http://mbspy.bacosys.be/c111_III.htm

Imagine a W123 300TDT: 230BHP, 300LB/ft
this must be a freaky fast old stinky diesel![:D][8D][:p][}:)][;)][^][)]

Yep. That's the ole' 617 all right. It could go 200 + mph, too. World's fastest diesel. Basically the same engine as in the standard 5 cylinder 617 in the 1978 300SD or W123 300D turbodiesel (except for an intercooler and alloy cylinder head).

My personal favorite version of the C111![:D]

All you really have to do to achieve that power is to increase airflow and advance the fuel. There ya' go!
And my guess is that it was running a ton of boost with increased fuel delivery...or do yo...

And my guess is that it was running a ton of boost with increased fuel delivery...or do you get that much more power with just heads and IC?

I also think there's a huge turbopressure to achieve that kind of power from a late '70's diesel --> the max. torque is 403nm at 3700 (!!!) rpm, for a Turbo-diesel!
