1999 E300 TD. Yesterday , Mon. 6/1 on way home my Check Engine light came on Today on way back from work lost Turbo power. Yesterday I did ck my air filter and its dirty and will replace tomorrow. Missing both clips to air filter closest to engine. 1) would dirty air filter cause engine light to come on and lose Turbo power? 2) Not having a tight seal for air filter canister cause turbo to fail? Lost Turbo power did happen next day after pulling filter out of canister to check condition. Wonder what I did ?

Boyd good questions. I will ck Maf sensor tomorrow. Not sure where Turbo Vacuum hoses are exactly but imagine attached to turbo of course. I did replace my MAF sensor about 5 years ago, but with less expensive after market brand.

Other pieces of puzzle 1) muffler fell off recently --driving with out muffler till new one arrives 2) radiator is leaking-put in BarSeal leak product hoping it plugs up leak but probably will need a new radiator. 3) during last oil change in Feb. , indy mechanic said there is a leak of inlet ( not sure if right word) pipe to wastegate or inlet pipe from wastegate to turbo--have written down in car.

...Seal leak in an MB motor?
I recall the days this stuff was used in the American rides, but in MBs?
I've read somewhere in the forum that adding this is not good. That's what recall.

Went to Autozone to replace air filter and have codes read for "Check Engine" light and possible cause of lost turbo power. Before leaving house, filled up coolant reservoir and inspected MAF sensor and vacuum hoses to Turbo. Disconnected MAF sensor and reconnected. Turbo power has returned on trip to and from Autozone.

Code P0243 -Turbocharger wastegate solenoid "A" malfunction was indicated.

As reported, mechanic said there was a leak from inlet pipe/hose from wastegate noticed during last oil change in Feb. Hopefully replacing the hose will correct problem if Turbo fails again. Is this a relatively easy job-I have a mobile mechanic who works on my car for very reasonable rates. Where is wastegate solenoid and hose located?

Follow the small vacuum hose from the wastegate, which is attached to the turbo. The hose will go to the wastegate solenoid, prob on the inner fender.
