I just wanted to let you folks know that I am looking for a becker radio, preferably a mexico, europa, or grand prix. I am looking for one of the chrome pinstipe Becker radios that were an option on the mercedes. I think the alpine belongs in the pickup and a proper radio belongs in the benz.

If anyone has a becker radio that is chrome pinstripe for one of these cars and you would like to sell it to a good home let met know. You can either Pm me or email me at: benzbaron @ gmail. com

Thanks for the help folks and if anyone sees a bitchin radio let me know. I am basically upgrading the radio in my pickup and have to find a reason to buy a Becker and put the alpine into the pickup.

No affiliation with the ebay benzbaron! I had enough trouble selling a stupid shift knob on ebay that I'm not a big fan. Seems to me ebay and paypal make all the money while the seller is left holding the bag. If you figure 10% ebay listing fee + 10% paypal you are talking 20% off the top.

Yes. It is a big scam. I love my PayPal but I try not to use eBay.

I have a Grand Prix you could have but it has no chrome and cassette is dead. I'd recommend you get a new 4602 anyway.

Good show. I think it's great that you're going for a period Becker. The sight of a modern unit with flashy displays and the beeping blinking lights and knobs always looks a sore thumb on these cars (in my meaningless opinion).

The radio in our newly acquired '85 380SL is dead. I have a small collection of Beckers from my diesel affiliation, both chrome faced and black plastic. I assume the one that is in there is the original ( I think its a Grand Prix) black plastic.

At what point did they switch from chrome to black? Was it 1981 with the first 380SLs?

My '79 240D had the pinstripe Becker Europa- AM/FM mono. It was actually pretty easy to remove. Not sure why he would be having any trouble.

IIRC the radio on 240D has some hidden bars held on with 10mm bolts that are hard to find. I wrecked the dash on one getting the Becker out.

I agree with Weather Man about the Becker 4602. I'm wanting to replace the Alpine I inherited with the purchase of my '86 560SL. The 4602 is a great look, but I've not had success in finding one as Becker discontinued them about five years ago. I welcome any leads on a source.

Sounds like the radio was succesfully removed and will be shipped soon. Can't wait, now to extract the Alpine and install it in the picker uper truck.

I got the Becker, pure eye candy. I'm going to work on the install after the holidays.

I actually bought a becker that only has 2 speaker output so I can't hook up the rear speakers, I'm thinking about selling this one and looking for a europa 2 or whichever one has front and rear speaker channels.

Forget 4channel 200W this becker radio puts out a massive 7w to the speakers, I better wear some earplugs.

At one time, I was VERY interested in a period correct, stock unit for mine. I've changed my mind.

I'll be getting a Blaupunkt Hamburg this spring to replace the crappy light display of a stereo that is currently in there.

Blaupunkt has a very nice, understated design. They put more effort into the electronics of the product than they do the lights and whistles.

Back when I used to compete in SPL competitions, I used Blaupunkt exclusively for my head units, and Alpine and Rockford Fosgate for my amps. I always was happy with the toned down looks and impressive sound quality.

Interesting option. I may consider this as well. Do you know how well this unit will fit into your opening?
