Had a old 300SD in grad school and loved it, anyways found a 88 2.6 190 with 55K on it. Wondering what I should be looking for common problems with them and what a fair price might be. The body is straight and clean and the interior is in good shape. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Buy the car as you would any used car of this age, nothing more, nothing less. Drive the car. If everything works and the car handles well, and shifts smoothly, giving you a good feel, then buy it. I would be suspicious of the mileage on this car though.
Price? If everything works--a/c, cruise control, window and seat motors, speedometer and all other indicators, and the engine bay is clean. Somewhere between 3.5k and 4k. If the tires are more than 4 years old, subtract $100.00 for each tire. So too, if the battery is more than 2 years old, subtract another $100.00 from the asking price. If there is no documented history or owner's manual, subtract another $100.00.

Be sure to run a CarFax on the car. That will tell you a lot. Good luck! Keep us informed.
