Probability is high of ancilliary damage...no way of telling without a good timing chain other than pulling the head and looking...probablility of valve and piston damage is high. Mine jumped while starting, and jumped back, because the chain was still in the right place when opened..still bent two valves..no piston damage, but piston wear was excessive enough to warrant a rebore and new jugs anyway...On another one all the guides let go and the pieces were blocking the oilways..giving me oil pressure flutter...coasted into the shop....It was only 1/2 mile from the beginning of oil pressure fluctuation..so no serious damage..just chain, chain guides, pump drive gear and tensioner...still came out pretty high as labor was extensive to flush all the metal out of the oilways, remove and clean oil pan, change all guides tensioner and chain, pump drive gear, as well as pump housing/cover which was damaged...$2600.
There was another 16V came into the shop as the same time as my first one with the same issue...They did a complete engine overhaul, but did not neeed a rebore...saved all the valves and jugs...so just a honing, rings, valve shims, valve grind, valve guides, chain, seals, valve chain guides and tensioner, plus gaskets and labor...$5500..well over half of that was labor.
The low range is $1500 with just a chain and tensioners by an experienced indy, or less if you can DIY, to $9000 - $10,000 with complete shop rebuild, including cam and crank grind, new bearings, new jugs and valves, cylinder bore, plus all new timing chain components and possibly even cam gears...obviously less if you can do the work youself.
