Has anyone ever change on their own the locks by the winshield. I think its called the piston seal. The hydraulic fluid is leaking. I think the part is 175.00. Also is the fog lights adjustable and if so how do you adjust it?

Replacing locks is simple

Won't take you more than 45 minutes. Use a phillips to remove the plastic trim around each of the two openings where the top latches to the windshield. Now the top cover can slide back to expose the hydraulics. What you should find is that the hydraulic cylinder which actuates the lock is causing the leaking. Disassembly from this point should be intuitive. No need to bleed the system when you finish.

Finally, consider talking to Phil at Mercedesshop.com http://www.mercedesshop.com/parts_lobby.htm about purchasing the hydraulic cylinder. He sells them for $125 each. Ask for part #129-800-16-72. Might as well get two of them and do both sides, since these are notorious for failing.

My passenger side to latch leaked hydraulic fluid, I tried to fixit myself but I did not repaired it correctly. The latch mechanism did not synchronize while engaging the soft-top. The driver’s side engaged, but not the passenger side.

I had to take it to a very good local Mercedes shop, and they had to balance the hydraulic fluid, I was also missing a small pump & grommet that the latch required.

These cars are not designed for “do it yourself’ type of repairs.

Is the part number #129-800-16-72 for left side or for right side?

Does anyone have pics of how to remove the covers to replace the pumps?

Thanks much.

The cylinder is the same for left and right side. I don't think you need a picture...Just remove the plastic which surrounds the lock openings in the top of the winshield and slide the entire cover back to remove it.

Bob,

I am debating between fixing it myself and bring it to the dealer. If I could do it myself, I'd save around $400. On the other hand, if I messed it up, ... man, just don't want to think about it.

You and some others said in the posts that it was a simple job to do. However, one guy said he had to finally bring to the shop to finish the job!

Thanks again for all the info you provided, Bob.

I don't think it is possible to mess this job up.
