Hi,

Does any expert here know how i can lock my car (2002 CLK320 W208) with the engine running?

I know someone will ask why i have to do this.
I understand that it is harmful to run short direction (1km) and shut the engine off and 5 mins later turn it on again.

This is why i am rising this question here. Please advice your thoughts.

How about taking the metal key that is inside your plastic key and, while letting the motor run, lock the door (from the outside) with the metal key, they when you want to get back in, open the door the same way.

It would be better to have a key available to be able to open the car, I assume that would be the intention at some point. :)

It is possible to lock doors without a key if the passenger side doors are locked first, then the driver door from the driver side rear door, last the lock pin down from the rear door and close the rear door. It is just the driver's door that cannot be locked before the door is closed.

You might want to check it, since some models have locks disabled with key in the ignition, unless you do it from the central lock inside.
Than leaving engine idling for 5 or more minutes is harmful. It washes oil from cylinder walls. Not a big deal and I was having engines idling for hors when stuck in snow storm, but something to remember.

Silly me. I had assumed that if he had the metal key when he locked the drivers door with it, then he'd still have it when he went to open the same drivers door, to get back in. There's all sorts of ways to lock the doors, with or without the motor running. The way I had suggested was, in my opinion, the easiest and simplest way, but obviously you don't agree.

He means the electronic key in the ignition and the metal key blade that slides into it to lock the doors... Not sure if it works though, not tried myself.

Some of us don't even work on the cars and are coming here 99 % for the fun :D
That said I know the above recommendation will not work because opened door will not stay locked with central lock button. Different models have different idiot-proofing.
On older models you can lock the car with key in the ignition using the rear door or hatch, but wouldn't surprise me if MB foolproof that option as well.

Do you think I am returning back to the car...? If you will me, what will you do..?

My purpose is not to drain off my fuel, Bro
I suppose I'm used to reading OT, where everyone just assumes you're full of sh*t.

Should have used more sarcastic smilies...

Don't know who told you running a car for a short distance and then re-starting it after 5 minutes was detrimental to the engine, but if the distance is so negligible, ride a bike.

Then you wouldn't have to worry about fuel at all, bro

An old post but I found this now. You seemed to misunderstand my post, my intention was to emphasise that I completely agree with you, it was supposed to be some kind of a joke that one might succeed what the OP was asking (close the doors) without making sure that doors can also be opened afterwards. Really I was just trying to add other ways to close doors in addition to your straightforward way. Now I'm just not sure if Kajtek explains this does not even work today, I definitely have not used it since the W123 was almost new car, no need if one keeps hold of two keys on a car with remote controlled locks. Sorry if you found the post somehow impolite or opposing your views.

DB,

No worries. Sorry if I misunderstood your intention because sometimes it's difficult to glean a person's real meaning from a short post, especially if they aren't using those sarcastic and smiley face thingies.

Happy Easter.
