2004 CLK320 cab. - looking for the control module location.
I have checked lots of things trying to get the roof working.
Windows and headrests operate normally.
The trunk compartment switch is tripped.
Pump runs for usual 10sec. then off, it will lift the back window.
It will not completely unlock the front lock (just replaced that cylinder - leak), fluid good - not going down, no visual signs of leaks or smell.
The back cover will not go up or down.
If I close the roof manually, and have the cover open, roof will operate forward to close up to the point it should latch but only 1/2 way throws it. If from there I try to open the roof - the pump runs but nothing moves. I pulled the fuse 28 - good. I swapped the 2 relays by the pump tank - did not help, put the MBZ relays back in.
Advice? Thought I would pull and re-install the module in case of corrosion or something? If that does not help - probably off to the shop with $$$!!.
Terry

It's located under the carpeted panel between the spare tire and rear seat (the module on the left in this photo):

I need to replace the Roof Top Module on my 2005 CLK AMG Convertible, the shot above is very useful. Which is the best way to remove the metal panel that covers the units?

Thanks,

~W.

I've never removed it myself. I cannot find anything in WIS with any details, so that usually means "remove the bolts/screws".

okay, thanks for the quick response. I'll let you know how it turns out. I was hoping that you may have some tips on getting a better angle on those T30 screws.

okay, I had to do things the hard way, that metal panel had what seems like a dozen screws to hold it down.. I'm still working on a way to get to the last screw holding the control module. I have enough clearance to at lease test the replacement Roof Control Module, the roof now opens and closes correctly.

Now! the only issue I'm having is the following message "Please Release roll-over bar". How would I go about clearing this message.

Are your headrests deployed? If so, first try to lower them with the button on the upper control panel. If that doesn't work, then you'll need to lower them manually. You have to insert a tool (like the included Allen wrench) beside the rear headrest to release its spring lock. Instructions are in the owner's manual. If they are not deployed, then you could have a bad sensor or a bad control module.

No, the Headrest are not deployed. I'm leaning towards having a bad control module. the original module does not give this message. I'm planning to reconnect the original tomorrow and return the one I bought from ebay.

Thanks, Rodney

Rodney,

The folks I bought the Soft Top Module is asking me if I've programmed the module to my car, this is after I explained to them that I would like a replacement or refund. Do you know of such?

There is no coding of the module that I can see which would affect this. The only things you can change are whether or not the automatic trunk closer is active and whether or not the ski bag is present. Even if these were improperly coded, I can't see them triggering a roll bar error.

It's likely that this unit was pulled from a car that was in a crash and the roll bars deployed. It may just need that error reset. As you can see from the DTCs (link below), there are several errors related to roll bar switch positions. I'd reset the errors and see if that fixes it. You probably do need the coding checked to properly set those adaptations I mentioned above. This will require SDS.

Rodney,

You are awesome!!!

Thank you for the information, and the advice.

I'm planning to send this unit back to the seller, I'll let them deal with the errors and proper coding, If I hadn't kick out $$ for this unit I would definitely explore into this more...

Thanks!

So, after reinstalling the OEM control module, of course m not seeing the "Please reset roll-bar" message anymore. As a matter of fact, I'm not getting any malfunctions from the DTC about the Soft Top. The top opens and close without errors. Is it possible that disconnecting/reconnecting may have solved my issue?

Thanks,
~W.

More likely it was a bad connection in the first place.

Sigh! The dreaded "Visit Workshop" message is back.. I'm not completely sure it's the Soft Top Controller unit. I must have some other electrical issue.

There should be something else along with the Visit Workshop message indicating what has failed.

Thanks, Rodney. I'll wait for it to error again and scan it with my SDS.
