Does anyone know if this is something that can be repaired at home.if so how ?
Originally I wrote yes, it's easy to drop the lower oil pan to access the oil sensor (B40) inside. Then I read the WIS for your model, and discovered that you might also have to remove the front axle gear...

Take a look under the car and check out what is under the oil sump. If the axle gear is obstructing the pan, this looks like a shop job.

No - I live in the UK. Why not have a word with your trusted local Inde who will give you an idea of the cost.

It's unfortunate for you here with your W220. On my W209 CLK I can do this job in a couple of hours at home, as the access is easy.
