Linguatronic

Hi, I do have it in my 1998 CL600 .

It is an addition to the AEG TELECAR D-NETWORK cellular phone.

The "rod" activates the phone, or accept/denies incoming calls without touching the phone. When activated, one can use pre-defined commands to communicate with the system. like "DIAL A NUMBER" ( and then dictate it) "DAIL A NAME" (from the stored names, to call someone) and so on.

radio

The radio looks like an "APS" radio, first generation, with navigation, but no cassette shaft. (dc changer in trunk optional)
Here in 1996 S420 (euro)

It cannot be installed afterwards because of the several components necessary for the operation of the navigation system.

This is APS 4 in 1998 CL600 (euro)

looks similar, but has cassette player hidden behind foldable display, less components necessary for the Navigation system, and also optional cd-changer. Unfortunately, it aslo cannot be easily retrofitted.

I have a 1997 S600 US Model, and i would like to instal the APS 4 in my car, because i like the hidden cassette player. I am not interested in the Navigation to work. Is it possible to install and an easy plug and play ?

Yes, correct, its from my car, and its a APS2, with Linguatronic and D-Netz GSM phone,
that work with at least some of the current GSM cards.
Its a german car, and the Linguatronic do only "speak" and understand German.

The microphone on mine is placed more towards the driver.

Yes, for pure audio, the APS4 should be easy to install. Theres usually a lot of
units, often brand new, for sale at ebay.de

Beware, that the FM frequency stepping is different in US as in Europe, so
you might have problems with radio reception.

American radios always skip the radio frequencies in odd numbers, like FM 100.3, 100.5...etc. The European radios move in single digits, like 100.3, 100.4...etc, therefore making European radios working in the US, but US radios not working well in Europe.
