I would like to know if my 1993 600SEL has a limited slip rear differential. How can I make this determination? [?]

ASR

ASR automatic slip control was standard on all 500s & 600s. I think it is the anti slip that applies the brake to the wheel that is spinning thru the ABS system.

Your car is equiped with 'traction control' and you'd notice a yellow triangle light flashing in the middle of the cluster mean it's doing it's job when you're on slippery surface.
limited slip

if you get out your vehicle data card,(last page in your maintenance booklet) and look at the list of numbers at the bottom. if you have #256 in there then you have limited slip.

Is ASR the same as "limited slip"?

LSD is the mechanical predecessor..

ASR is a traction control program based off ABS. ASR *attempts* to mimic LSD.
