lights misbehaving..need help

My dash lights seem to dim and the yellow light bulb icon warning signal in the dash comes on every time i hit the brake.

When i turn the lights on at night, the yellow warning bulb signal in the dash is on all the time and i have noticed that the brake light assembly in the center bottom of the back windshield is all the times when i have the lights on at night...

None of my lights seem to be out or not working..

Has anyone had this problem and do you know how to fix it?

Classic symptoms of a poor earth.

(1) Check all lamps (esp the rear) for moisture penetration - clean and dry out if necessary
(2) Check connectors for correct seating
(3) Check the din connectors for corrosion and treat with WD40 and clean if necessary.
(4) Check the bulb seating in the rear lamp for corrosion.
(5) Check the bulbs (esp the brake bulbs) for correct type and seating - Changing all three (inc high level) may solve the problem.

problem solved

After having all mylights dim when i hit the brakes and having the brake light constantly on with the warning dash light icon on, i figured out what was wrong.

I put the car in the garage and i was able to see which rearbbulb was mulfuctioning because it was harder to see it in the daylight...

moral of the story, check very carefully each bulb when your lights act up and you cant really tell where the problem is coming from.

Brake light on when lights are on

Hi,

I know this is an old thread but it sounds exactly like what happened to me today. At first the bulb indicator came on every time I pressed the brake. So I thought it was the brake bulb. So I turned on the lights and indicator came on and stayed on. Now I have noticed that when the lights are on, the third brake light is on and when the lights are off and the car running, when I press the brake, all the interior lights come as well. Could this all be coming from a bad brake bulb? It's hard to believe that it could all becoming from a bulb but after reading your thread, I'm starting to think it is the same thing.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

I am having problem with My 1995 S 600. After starting the car and turning on the lights Thursday morning the dash and interior lights on console and doors went off. No prior troubles. Any advise as to what to look for?

Not sure what could causing the lights to go out on your dash and interior...however, I didn't think a melted bulb on the tail light would cause my interior lights to come on when I pressed the brake pedal. I would look and the outside lights first to see if any are not working properly. The lighting system in these w140's are amaxzingly wired.
