Was just browsing around looking for waxing tips. I haven't given it a full wax yet. I've been afraid of swirl marks. I am getting closer. Here is a shot after a wash, and Meguiars Quick Detailing spray.

What do you do to maintain the shine? I also have a black benz, and I noticed water spots after my first wash. The Quick Detailing Spray seemed to eliminate them. Thinking about waxing or claying at the end of August.
After owning 6 Porsches, a Viper, several late model Corvettes, 4 MBs and a new Lexus I have tried just about every wax I have ever saw advertised. Liquid Glass was my favorite for years. Then Zymol, NXT and numerous others I have forgotten about. Today I tried Zaino on my week old pearl white SC430.
Outstanding does not convey the results I achieved!
Try the product against ANYTHING you have tried before.

Sorry, I used to have a grey (I think they called it anthracite) '87 560SEL which I never got to look shiny --- so I ditched it after three years and got my current Midnight Blue. This is a non-waxed, non-clayed, non-polished, non-Scratchx'ed finish --- I can't wait until I dump $200 worth of products on it --- I bet you'll be able to get lost in the shine[]

I would never have guessed your SLK was a 99. I avoided a red SLK thinking it would be difficult to keep up the shine. What are you using ByebyeAmericanpie?

I use different things depending on what I need at the time. The most aggressive system I use is the Mequiers 3 step system.
1. Clay the entire car then Paint cleaner/swirl remover applied with a Porter Cable DA unit.
2. Polish step applied with the PC,
3.(this is where I diverge from Meguiers recommended process) I use either S100 (Same as P21S) paste wax or Mequiers #26 yellow wax applied by hand.
When I finish this process, the car is 100% swirl free and glows like Rudolphs nose!
Other times I will use Mequiers NXT or Zymol when I dont need an agggressive cleaning step.
