I've done a lot of research on this forum and in my owners manual and I thought my 1990 124.051/M104.980 was a 3.2l engine but now I have doubts as I have no OEM owners manual . Q. 3.2L or 3.0L? now I'm leaning towards 3.0 as stormy said. US car via Canada? According to EPC. the VIN IS WDB1240511B087493 and I cannot find the engine size:eek:

Copying my reply from your previous post.

Sam,

Your CIS-E M104.980 is indeed a 3.0L (actually 2960cc) M104 unlike the later 3.2L M104.992 motors. This unique engine variant was used briefly and only in the 300CE coupes for model years 1990-92.

The smaller displacement nets you a 7000 rpm redline while the 3.2L had to make do with 6200.

Think of your engine as the last hoorah for Bosch mechanical & continuous injection.

According to your datacard your engine number is : 104980 12 001473

104980 engines are 3.0litres with KE injection producing 217 h.p.

This variety only lasted a year or so before being replaced by the M104 3.2 litre 10499x

You have a 722359 transmission.

Car is US version (code 494)

A few more specifics on the M104. 98 motor. In the NA market, the only Mercedes equipped with this motor were 90 - 92 300CE's and 300SL's.

I didn't mean to doubt you...however I never had any documentation..I even have the owners bible 86-95 and it dose not mention anything about a 3.0 104 only the 2.8/3.2.. So you guys cleared this up and I thank you:bowdown:

The owner's bible does explain this variant. Check out the table on page 127.

Except for the 3.6L M104 used in the W202 C36, your 3.0L M104 is the most powerful version with 228hp @ 6300rpm and 201 ft/lbs torque @ 4600 rpm.

I believe we have a few members here in Europe who have sedans and wagons with the M104 3.0 engines. I think the script on the trunk/hatch lid read 300E-24V and 300TE-24V

300 24v Sedans made it to Australia and Asia.

They sold in limited numbers because in our market they were hyper expensive.

The real weak point with these is the EZL. Known to be troublesome and because of limited production numbers - expensive.
