I have a 2014 C250 with the standard halogen lights and wonder if anyone has found a reliable led replacement bulb that fits and doesn't throw a warning.

Try emailing Daniel Stern for the H7 specials that he has:

LEDs won't work well, as far as I know...

I installed LEDs on my 2014 C300 4Matic with great results. I recommend buying LED bulbs with maximum lumens , but no fan. And then spending some time with adjusting the headlights accordingly.

If you adjust right, you get a substantially better pattern - and no flashing from oncoming cars.

I used these on my R350:

They're better than some I've tried, do not throw up error codes because of the cooling fans, and so far have lasted at least 50K miles. I don't think they're as good for low beam as H7 incandescent bulbs, however. Whether that's due to the light source being in the wrong spot for the interior reflectors inside the headlights or just not being as bright I don't know, but I would avoid any LED bulbs with only two rows of LEDs.

Also remember you'll need the adaptor kit:

Fans or no fans us up to you. They are supposed to extend the lives of the LEDs. My R350 has done about 50k miles on one set. High beam is fine, low beam not so good. I've tried adjusting as best I can but still not 10 out of 10.

Well, so what?

All I can say us that the first set I tried, which had just two LED areas per "bulb" were crap.
The latest set, with four LED areas each, are better, and on my R350 work well on high beam. On low beam I would only give them 6/10 and I'm going to change them out for 100 watt H7s for the winter.

The fundamental point here is that a good old fashioned incandescent bulb throws out light 360 degrees around, whereas the LEDs only put out light from 2 or 4 facets. Unless the headlight's reflective parabolic mirror in the back is tuned for LEDs it isn't going to be optimal.

The reason is liability, and that factually they are almost 100% likely to be unsafe/illegal in some way, shape, or form.

There is an SAE task force developing LED replacement bulbs, but they are not done...

Visual perception is deceptive, it is by testing with specialized equipment that verifies true lighting upgrades, or with specialized knowledge of the lights/lamps in question.

I usually refer direct to that forum, but most of the time nobody goes...

Maybe it’s brighter, but you are blinding oncoming traffic, as an example. I may be blinded AND not flash the offender. Of course in an oncoming situation I may run into you.....

They know best, and they’ve gotten a lot lighter demeanor nowadays. If you want a true upgrade go there and ask.....
