Meguiar makes some good auto products but I was very disappointed with this leather cleaner :GOLD CLASS™ RICH LEATHER CLEANER/CONDITIONER GEL. I bought it because of its ease of use. Applied it about 6 times on my Z and all of a sudden some part of the leather is starting to look whitish/bleached/old-er. I've stopped using it. Maybe someone else has had better luck but I'm just throwing this out there. I usually use Eagle One's Leather Care Creme Conditioner and never had any issues like this.

Did you clean throughout before using? Sounds like old chems coming to the surface.

It does sound like old chemicals coming to the surface - but could be something else.

Just a personal recommendation - the Leatherique Pristine Clean and Rejuvenator are the BEST leather cleaning products I have EVER used. They sound expensive, like $40 for a 16oz set, but the amount actually you use for treatment is not as much as you think.

Ditto fabbrisd1 comments on Leatherique. The two parts are applied in this order: rejuvenator and then pristine clean. The argument presented is the rejuvenator drives the dirt to the surface and the cleaner removes it. I believe you are seeing the first part of this sequence. Try cleaning the areas with say 409.
Some time back, the Leatherique company was giving discounts to MB owners but you had to phone in orders for this. Worth checking.

I experienced the same result and discontinued use. I did try it on the yellowed headlamps and it cleaned off alot of the haze off without much effort.

For people considering a dye/paitn job - unless there are specific worn spots, deep scratches or scrapes you are most upset about - sometimes on general condition it's best to do the cleaning/rejuvenating job as a 1st stage. You let that re-condition the leather, then consider doing the sye/paint job after the freshened leather has set in about 6-8 weeks.

Outside of the cleaning part of the job, a good product set like Leatherique actually restores suppleness back to the leather. I cut my tooth on older 116 and 124, which sometimes took 2-3 applications over time to get unbelievable results.

Actually on W163/ML's and W210/E class the process is a one time very straightforward deal and results last over a year.

On dye/paint recommendations - contact Leatherique directly, often they will know the interior color code. On doing the actual job you don't go wrong by following instructions precisely, and make sure on the paint/dye job you have a heated enviroment for those facing this next winter season.

Keep the beat !

I re-dyed the leather seat & saddlebags on my bike with Fiebings Leather Die and while the end result made them look like new, I gotta tell you it was a very messy and time consuming job. You have to buff...and buff...and buff unless you want the seat of your pants turning black.

I can't imagine doing something really large like a set of car seats.

Sorry for late reply. NO, I didn't clean before application for two reasons:
  1. It's a leather cleaner so I didn't think I needed to do any extra cleaning. I did read the instructions but don't recall that they asked to clean before applying the cleaner and conditioner.
  2. I have used other Meguiar's leather products b4 without any special cleaning perquisite, and the Eagle-1 product that I'd been using for years worked just fine without any specific pre-cleaning requirements. Even the Mothers' leather product that MB sells never required any pre-cleaning for it to work just fine.
But you do make a good point because this abnormality is present only in exposed areas - like the part between my legs, no, not that part, but the leather piece!

Is that Leatherique as that fake leather or Leatherique as a leather cleaning product company?

Try Zaino Z-9 Leather Spray Cleaner and Z-10 Leather in a Bottle. Can't recommend them enough!
Thanks. I think I'll try what fabbrisd1 recommends first and see how that goes. Have you tried Zaino on the ML? How does it work with pores on the leather?

Try Leatherique the resto products, that's a good ribbing. Haven't found one person who has used the product, per directions, that hasn't been VERY satisfied with the actaul results. Over time, better than expected since it actually conditions the leather, and not just a surface oil.

I use small spray bottles for application to make it easy for me, and I use a soft tootbursh to work it into the seams and stitching, but hey, that's me.

Keep the faith !

I did not know all these products. Therefore, I just randomly picked Armor All's leather protectant and ultra Shine protectant. Maybe it's not that random. I might just like the design or price. the ultra shine protectant can also be used on the external trim around the door as well. I really like the result.

Leatherique is the only product I use..

They have cleaner and rejuvenator products, if it is good enough for the Lamborghini and Rolls Royce clubs I guess it 'll have to be good enough for my Benz.

Herman

it is seriously the best product I have ever used on the interior or furniture

...Pores wise I'm not sure what you mean?
I meant the perforated sections of the ML's leather seats - some cleaners get in there and just live and look ugly, especially the white ones. But thanks for the Leatherique confirmation though. I read about it and it seems like the real deal.

It really is the bomb D-Man, for the original interior look and feel. Pretty soon you will need to crank up the heat in the car, or stick a small electric heater on the floor. Heat is good for this process, not meaning blow dryer or heat gun, but a hot-summer-like-heated interior really aids the process.

I thought it was OK, but following the directions when you wipe out all the lifted gunk, and a year later you are still proud of the result - it's the bomb..

I was convinced when the instruction said to leave it there for a day under heat, then wipe off. I don't know of any other cleaner that's that intense. As for heat, we're still in lo 70s here. I have to order the stuff then wait for that more- than-occasional 80+ we get here during the cold months. Otherwise I'll wait 'till after winter. My seats aren't bad, just don't like neglecting them.

I have a section of the passenger seat that got wet and the leather looks tightened up like its dried out. Will the Leatherique cleaner an rejuv help that out?
