From doing a search on the topic, it seems like everywhere else in the country Mercedes dealers are asking $120-$150 for a replacement key for a W210, while here in lovely upper class Los Angeles, I called around (Beverly Hills, Van Nuys, South Bay, Santa Monica, Long Beach) and I cannot find a single dealer to get me a new replacement key for under $340. I'm getting seriously pissed off at these rediculous mark-ups we to pay just because we live in Southern California.

I'm willing to drive up to 80 miles from Los Angeles to find a HONEST dealer.

why not just call one of the cheaper dealers, fax them your title and have them send you a key?

I think the price for key replacement at dealers is pretty much standard. The price might have gone up. A few months ago, it was $270+ out of the door. Maybe by this time next year, it's $500.

Still remember paying $130 for chrome key about 3 years ago and doing whole transaction via email.
Keep calling. I have 2 MB dealers in 7 miles radius. The one in Walnut Creek is having the biggest markups in the country. The opposite direction, MB of Oakland gave me decent prices on few occasions. Maybe fact that just few blocks from MB of Oakland there is independent German car warehouse, that sells the parts for the prices you can find on the internet only makes the difference?

BTW. Nevada quite often has lower prices. You could order the key in Las Vegas and drive there to pick it up. Might still come cheaper spending weekend in Las Vegas, than pay LA stealers.

No mail order now

I don't think we can do that any longer. There have been posts stating that you have to go in person and prove that you own the car. I don't remember if you have to take the car with you but I'm pretty sure you have to at least produce the title in person. Just in case take a photo ID too.

damn the prices are really that steep now? My car only came with one key and I'm in the same boat and need to get another.

Beware with Sin City.
The cost of the key in Las Vegas = MB dealer's price + Cash given to Casino's dealer + Coins disappearing in slot machines.

When you have a gambling problem, you can easily loose your money in one of the Indian casinos.
I love going to Vegas. $26 hotels, $6.99 lunch buffets at the state lane, $3 T-shirts, $8 jeans. I just have a set limit not to loose more than $20 a night, or $50 during week stay.

Las Vegas will bankrupt if people hold their wallets/purses too tightly.

$219.11 plus tax in Hartford CT June 22, this year. I bought car with only one, and ordered another the next day.
I had to bring car, reg, and ID to get it.

A replacement Key for my wife's Volvo XC90 cost $100+ more. She found the one she accused me of loosing two months after I bought her a new one.

Call Mercedes Benz of Escondido. I had a key replaced there while ago. Don't recall the price but it seemed reasonable at the time.
