Leaking heater core, how to replace?

Hi,

I am new to this forum as I have just bought me a project.
It is a -94 320 SL.

I had it to a friend who is a car mechanic and he told me that the "heat package", (I don't know the english word for the radiator heating up the air in the coupé) is leaking and small amounts of water is entering the coupé at the gas pedal.

Otherwise the car was in fine condition, with some smaller adjustments needed.

The question is, is this a commeon problem?
How do you peplace / fix? Merc is esimating 12 hour for the job.

Does anyone have a ervice manual describing the job?

Many thanks

/Jonas

Hello and welcome.

Your question is a bit blurry; where is the water leaking from, the dash, or engine compartment?

Hi,

I is probably also blurry as I don't know the word for this heat element...

I understand that it is from the dash and that my friend said that we need to replace this "heat element".

He also said that we need to diamoount the complete dash in order to access it. But we don't have any manual yet..

I was also qurious if this is a common problem.

Thansk

Sounds like you are describing the 'heater core'. If that is the case, you will need to remove the dash to access it.

Thanks, you are correct, just got the word also from wiki.

Does anyone have an instruction or manual describing the operation?
Is there a shorter fix than the Benz workshop estimate for 12 hours for the job?
Sounds like you need to dismantle the lot?

Thanks again

You may want to do a search on replacing the A/C evaporator.
I think it was member( smith66) that did it maybe a year or two a go, with pictures.
Same amount of work...

Regards,
aam.
