I have a 2010 model year S400, with an August 2009 build date. It is the 3.5 system.

Does anyone know the latest map/nav update available?

Answering my own question. I heard back from Navtech and the latest version will be out in 2 weeks: Version 9.0.

What is crazy is that my 2010 S400 has Version 2.0; unless Navteq skipped a lot of version numbers, my dealer included a really old version of the maps with my car.

V.9 is for MY07-09 NTG3. EPC shows MB part 2168271859 (V.2) as current for MY10-11 NTG 3.5, you may want to confirm with dealer parts.

FYI a Telematics update released 9/10 for MY10 (i.e.: new software for headunit & amplifier) disc 2218279959 no details given - bulletin has yet to be released.

How do you determine what version is installed and, if I need an update will MB send me a disk or will I have to go to the dealer?

When I had my car in for routine service, they told me that my telematics needed an update (I think there is a TSB for it). Note that is different than the map version.

I don't know what the update did but it is nothing obvious.

nav update

Would the update for the S400 be the same for a 2008 S550? Do dealers typipcally charge for the update (I am about to pick up my new car on Monday)?

Thanks,
Duffy

I am not sure. The Nav system changed in 2010; so, for example, I use a different map than the 2007-2009 models.

Installed navigation version will show when loading new disc (see OM), otherwise only dealer can identify version.

This thread discusses Telematics update http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w221-s-class/1343495-updated-my-2007-command-tons-more.html -- v.10 – current navigation disc for your MY07 is v.10, naveq.com (U0028-0075-003) or dealer. If under warranty, Telematics update is free. If not covered by warranty, you can purchase navigation update disc from dealer, request they install it and they will have no choice but to update Telematics for free for system to operate properly (i.e. birdseye view, real time traffic, etc.), PM your email address if you want a copy of DTB covering Telematics update.

The latest MB Navi DVD available at this time is version 8.2, there may be a newer version installed in the 2011 models, but I can't be sure.

Yeah. That is not for the 2010 S, which has the 3.5 system. Best I can tell, they latest disk for the 2010 is the V2 2009/2010 disk.

New Navi DVD version 10.

I just finished downloading the latest version 10 Navi disc in my car. I am willing to rent it out for $35 plus $5 for S&H. Anyone who is interested please PM me.

That has never been the issue. Navteq has been issuing upgrades for 2007-2009, which is what you have. The problem is Mercedes upgraded the Nav in 2010 to 3.5, somewhere in-between the old S and the 4.0 2010 E. And the only disk is oddly a 2009.

My bet is with the completely new 2012 S coming out soon, we will never see an upgrade for those of us stuck with the 2010-2011 S class. Just too few cars out there.

Even the 2010 E has a Nav update already.

The latest is the 2014 just released in the last month. I'm having it installed tomorrow. The claim it needs to be installed by the service department and I cannot do it myself.
Why would it be so, do you mean it needs a telematics update before the car accepts a new maps update? The actual maps update is straightforward, insert the DVD (correct DVD slot on a DVD changer), accept the update from the Comand screen and wait, actually wait for quite a while and make sure you do not run your battery flat.

It is not a telematics update, just a map update; so I am am equally perplexed why they would not just sell me the disks and let me do the install myself instead of making me wait at the dealer for almost 3 hours and charging me $50 labor.

I just moved this car from Boston to Florida and I wonder if my Boston dealer parts dept. would have just sold me the disk. I feel like this was a rip-off and waste of time.

On a positive note, I test drove the 2014 S550 fully loaded. What an amazing car; truly perfection on wheels. But given the near 50% depreciation on my 2012, I will wait a year before making the move. Also, 2015 promises BMW like HUD, which I really want.

Off topic but do you have some experience about HUD displays and are you aware of the content the W222 HUD displays? Do you really find it useful or just just a must have gadget? I'm interested because I might be able to add this feature to my order but for us it would be expensive (likely €2000+) and I would only add it if it really is useful.
